Tacky Wedding Reception Venue?

<3 FutureMrsDDC <3, on September 24, 2010 at 3:46 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 2

I need some advice. My father, who is paying for my entire wedding, wants me to have my wedding reception in a fire house's social hall. I'm talking about the kind of place that old ladies play bingo in. He is insisting on having it there so that we can have many many guests and it will still be cheap. He wont even listen to my ideas of havign it at a nicer place for about the same price pp. Has anyone ever been to one and did it look tacky or trashy? I'm really not a spoiled brat, but I just want my reception to have at least a little class. Please offer some advice!

My first venue choice was a firehouse hall and it was awesome. White floor to ceiling drapes, chandeliers, arms on chairs, the works. I would at least check a few out and you may be surprised.

If you don't want to bother, get a written breakdown of fees from other places you like and show your dad side by side with the fire house. Lastly, pay for the hall yourself so your dad doesn't need to be included in the decision.

Could you dress up the firehall with some nice decorations? Flowing fabric to cover tacky walls, white lights for a romantic feel - things along those lines. You can completely change the feel of a room with some well placed decorations.
