Laura M, on August 21, 2013 at 3:36 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13

How much did it cost you and how long were you there for? Feel free to pm me if you don't want to post it..not sure if this is a super duper nosy question or not, i just want to know what realistic costs a honeymoon in these places would be! I've looked online, I want to hear from actual brides who have gone on their honeymoons there though please Smiley smile

We haven't been yet and FHs grandparents are going but around 1000 (a couple of hundred either way) pernight for accommodation wouldn't surprise me

We are going to Bora Bora, it's very expensive. There are some less expensive hotels there (we are staying at the Four Seasons), but they are still much pricier than your average island vacation. We are staying for six days, and you need to factor in all your food and drinks as well (there is a small grocery store on the island, but mostly restaurants). All the activities are super-duper expensive as well.

We're actually flying from there to Hawaii, so we are going to just relax in the bungalow in Bora Bora and then do the scuba diving, hiking, etc in Hawaii where it's much more reasonably priced! (BTW, my fiance did all this. I would never have chosen such a pricey place!)

Well, I have actually gone, but we did look into it. When I had priced it out, for 6 nights, flight + room, it was about 4k pp. That's leaving from Seattle.

Bora Bora was my dream honeymoon location and it is literally the most expensive place I have found. Haha.

We are staying in Fiji...leaving in 12 days..WOOHOO!!! It's costing $13K total for the two of us, including the flight from LAX to Fiji (To/From DC is a seperate cost). We are staying for 8 nights. It's not one of the chain hotels ppl are familiar with, it's a boutique resort (Qamea Resort and Spa) that only has 34 guests at a time so it's really private and relaxed.

If you are looking in that area, I'd really recommend working with a travel agent familiar with the South Pacific. I thought we wanted to go to Bora Bora on a hut on the water but after talking to an agent at Journey Pacific and telling her what we were looking for she mentioned Fiji would be a better fit. They don't have huts on the water, but they have private beach houses on the beach and meals are basically catered to your preference (bonus of small resort).

We priced out Fiji at about $8000 not including airfare and an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora for $14000 without airfare.. while these were at the top resorts im sure you can find cheaper options but these destinations are going to be the most expensive options, at least to what i have found

Not any of those places, but we're going to the Maldives (where you can get a hut on the water, which is basically why I'm responding) for 10 nights, leaving from JFK and are spending 10k total for airfare and all-inclusive resort. Bora Bora would have been more expensive for us, and all I really wanted was a hut on the water out of hurricane zone!

    Hello!

I agree with the others, Tahiti and French Polynesia are extremely expensive, but it is so gorgeous and magical...if it is your dream, do it! But, do expect to spend $10,000 for your honeymoon.

One of my favorite options is to do a cruise with a suite - you will visit all of the major destinations within French Polynesia, a floating hotel with spa, gourmet restaurants, luxurious accommodations and there is often free airfare from Los Angeles.

I often recommend Kauai or St. Lucia as alternatives - Kauai was used as the backdrop to the movie, "South Pacific" and St. Lucia also has the beautiful green rainforest with craggy mountains. Both places have gorgeous luxurious resorts.

Also, have you considered the Cook Islands? They are what Hawaii "used" to be, rustic, beachy with little huts on the beach. Also, Fiji is remarkably affordable. Both have promotions for airfare, breakfast, etc.

    Best,

We are going there in two weeks!!!! We paid just over $10K for flights from Boston to LA and then LA to Tahiti. The we are spending 6 nights in Moorea at the Sofitel and 4 nights in Bora Bora at the Hilton. Both hotels have breakfast included and we have dinner included on Bora Bora.

If you are looking for a great travel company to work with, www.customtahiti.com was phenomenal! We just got a package in the mail last week with goodies to get us excited about the trip Smiley smile

I visited Tahiti last December. We spent a night in Papeete before heading off to Moorea and Bora Bora. Over the course of 6 days we visited 20 hotels! It was an exhausting trip!

There's really nothing like Tahiti. The airfare is a killer-generally running about $4000.00 from Ohio. Once you get to Tahiti, you'll need transfers and inter-island air as well. We typically tell our clients to expect Tahiti to start at about $10,000.

Many of the hotels in Tahiti offer meal plans-take them! You won't eat a meal at a hotel for under $50.00.

Tahiti really is a once-in-a-lifetime trip! Yes it's pricey, but there's really nothing else like it. Tahiti isn't touristy at all. You won't see a billboard or find a Starbucks. But if you want something completely different, you won't be disappointed!

Thanks ladies, I will look into some of the other places you've mentioned that are a bit cheaper. I just didn't' want to go somewhere I would normally go for no special occasion at all since this is our honeymoon.

Juliae- I've been to St.Lucia and we ziplined through the rainforest, it was amazing!

We were considering Hawaii as well but with all of the shark attacks lately, I'm a tad terrified lol.

I'd looking into the Maldives as someone above mentioned. The French Polynesia was my dream honeymoon but couldn't afford the 8K not include flights after paying for the wedding too. Maldives is more reasonably priced and the have meals included (breakfast and dinner and some resorts). GOOD LUCK! and let us know what you decide!!
