taking a broom on destination wedding

latrese, on June 28, 2010 at 11:40 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

Hey everyone, i just wanted to give you a heads up. my wedding was in the DR last monday. when i got there, they told me that i couldn't bring my broom out of the airport because it was agriculture (dried twigs) AND i couldn't send it home :o ( so i had to take off all the decorations and leave my broom there, which broke my heart. i didn't have it packed in anything because it was a little bigger than my suitcase so there was nowhere really to hide it. i just wanted to give people a heads up to be careful when entering another country because i don't want anyone's beautiful broom to be destroyed like mine was :o (

I'm sorry. I'm so clueless... What was the broom for?

Lots of people like to "jump the broom" as a part of the ceremony kinda a ceremonious way of sealing the deal

Oh wow. That's cute. That's strange that they took it from you at the airport. Who knew twigs were such a big deal? Hahhaa.

Cute idea! I'm sorry to hear that they didn't let you take it with you. We recently came back from Mexico, and at the airport they gave single roses to mothers, for Mother's Day, and they made them all throw away once they were boarding the plane. So strange!

I'm so sorry they didn't let you keep it! I hope people remember this for other DWs outside US borders--it's important to doublecheck on the regulations for what you can and cannot transport in and out of the country. As you found, some of the rules can be surprising.

That's strange usually if you contact the airline and make arrangements in advance there are no issues
