Taking My Wife's Last Name

Ok, not sure if this is possible at this stage in the game. But this is something we discussed prior to our wedding. When we were filling out our marriage license, we (I) chickened out and my wife put down that she was going to take my name. She never filed any paperwork to make it official, so she still has her maiden name. Due to the dynamics of our relationship, I deeply regret not taking her name. My question is... Is it still possible for me to do so? Even though on our marriage license it says that she was gonna take mine? We live in NY btw if that helps.

It's not impossible-- check your state laws and procedures for doing so. There are also a few very helpful name changing kits available online. My husband plans on taking my last name (we eloped, will have the big celebration later) and PA laws basically tell us that we just need to go through social security and go to the DMV with the marriage license to change it. You can use the new name in the meantime as well.
Make sure you check with the marriage license people on whether you need to redo anything since your wife put down she would be changing her name. Hopefully this helps
