Taking the kids on your honeymoon

Vanessa, on September 12, 2019 at 12:12 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

Anyone taking their kids on their honeymoon? We are, we have a 8 year old daughter and we are going on a cruise and right now it's hard to get a sitter so we will just be taking her with us. Plus on a lot of cruises they have things for kids to do so we will be able to have some adult alone time.

What are your thoughts?

Well, that's different. I can't agree with you about getting any alone time, though. Yes, it's true that cruise ships often have lots of kid-friendly activities/areas, which is why a lot of families take cruises. However, I don't think those activities/areas are meant for your child to be "dropped off", so to speak, so that mommy and daddy can have alone time. I believe those activities/areas are for the families to enjoy together. I mean, she's only 8, which, in my opinion, is too young to be wandering a ship alone for any length of time.

It's completely fine if that's what you want to do. Your daughter will most likely love it!

But if you want "alone time" on your honeymoon, I would look for someone your daughter can stay with, like grandparents, aunts & uncles, trusted close friends. Like, does she have a close friend from school that she could stay with that week? Like an extended sleepover.

LOL yes exact same situation! My 8 yr old is coming with us on our cruise! Basically both sides of our family is going on this cruise too so we told them that we are going to send her off with someone each day we are there haha luckily she is rooming with my mom.

This is the third big family cruise we've gone on and we always have SO much fun!
So we didnt mind doing our honeymoon with everyone, in fact we were gonna do a get away with just us two but started to get FOMO about missing the cruise. So we decided to make the cruise our honeymoon. Plus anyone who would watch our daughter for us is going on the cruise.

This is what my brother did, basically — they invited the whole family on their honeymoon cruise! Both sets of grandparents opted in, so they had built in baby sitters. For the excursions they wanted to do, they were able to leave their child with one set of grandparents one day and one set of grandparents the other day, and they were able to enjoy both a lot of alone time AND a lot of together time. It seemed to work out well for everyone

Yeah we werent gonna go at first but my mom insisted that she could room with her! So we went for it! We've always had a great time cruising! Lol plus knowing my daughter, she would be heartbroken if we went without her! She's all about going on the ship! So it really was the best choice for us.

We are going on a Disney Cruise and the kids clubs are strictly kids only. No adults, not even parents. And they have specific areas of the boat that are adults only.

Actually we have taken her with us on a cruise before and they don't take the kids just for fun but also so the parent can have some alone time. And they don't let 8 year old kids wander alone around the boat. They actually have a location on the ship where you drop the kids off and the put them in age appropriate groups and they do a lot of fun activities with them and also depending on the time you drop them of they give the lunch or dinner and also snacks. They also have camp at night which is like a big pajama party so that the parents can go clubbing if they like. And she had a awesome time when we took her and so did all the other kids that were there. And we won't be dropping her off the entire trip so we can be alone, we will do some family stuff with us also.

Far as leaving her with someone, we do have to close friends with daughter's the same age as her that we normally leave her with but one moved so they are not near us anymore and the other one well our daughters go to different schools now and she also has other kids so it would be too much for her to have to do all those drop offs and pickups. Grandma is only good for when we are going on dates and coming home that night, but not to leave her with for more the 1 or 2 days. So taking her with us we figured would be a great idea.

That's awesome. Our first cruise we went on we also had family with us to help with our daughter. But unfortunately for our honeymoon it will just be us. But I'm sure we will still have fun. Were going to plan activities to do with our daughter and also activities for us when we have some alone time. Thank God for Camp Carnival.

Pretty much all cruise lines have kids clubs, and they are closed to adults with the exception of a couple times for short family activities. I’ve brought my son on many cruises, and he loves the kids clubs and asks to go. The kids clubs are usually free until a certain time, and then some offer late night hours for a nominal charge. I only mention that because you may need to plan in your private bedroom time for when your little one is at the kids club. That being said, I hope you also enjoy time as a family and do things together. I’m sure she thinks of this as being her honeymoon as well, because most children don’t understand the traditional concept of what it is. Have fun and congratulations!
