Look it up but I think no sooner than a week prior just in case it does not go well. I know I saw a post on certain prep things to do before the weeding and when.

It will def. take me longer than 1 week to get a good tan.

Not a spray tan...actual laying down in the beds every day or every other day.

Oh I know lol. But I would ask the specialist when you should start. For example I want to get my underarms waxed and I did not know that I should allow hair to grow out two weeks and she recommended to not get it done more than 3 days prior. I would say also be cautious of doing that so maybe a month if you go often?

Why risk cancer? Cannot for the life of my understand why someone would use a tanning bed. Tanning legitimately kills.

    Yes, that is true.

I am well aware of that.

This is for my wedding...it's not like i will be tanning every single day for months.

Everything we do "kills" so....guess we all gotta pick and choose.

Just one session in a tanning bed can dramatically increase your chances of skin cancer. I'm guessing you havent seen someone die of skin cancer, I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.

    No need to further explain.

By the way my dad and grandpa both had it thank you very much.

Get a spray tan or embrace your natural tone. I can’t imagine any day, even your wedding day, being worth an increased risk of cancer, especially when you’ve already seen people experience that disease.

I say do what makes you happy because to me adding a chemical to your skin is just as bad. Maybe research a safer alternative?? Question do you live in a state where you can lay out and tan from the sun? Ultimately if you know you are going to do it then do what you want. I would call some places and just ask when is the best time to start. Smiley smile

I appreciate that Kristen! Smiley smile

I live in North Carolina...super cold here right now unfortunately.

Thank you for actually answering the question.

I am pretty sure everyone by now knows the repercussions of tanning...i don't need to be informed. lol

Only you know how your body responds to tanning (ex: do you tan easily or need to ease into it to avoid a burn?) but a good rule of thumb would be:

Start tanning 6 weeks before the wedding 2-3x a week - after the first week, increase the time as you see fit to get the color you want. If you burn even a little bit STOP COMPLETELY until it is healed. At 4 weeks out, add another day per week if needed. Do NOT tan the week of the wedding to avoid any accidental sun burns that won't have time to heal before the big day Smiley smile

I'm also getting married in April and I was thinking of starting to tan at the beginning of January. I usually try to go every other day.

    Oh fun!!

I have decided to go in February. That will give me a good window to gauge how dark i want to be.

True. I would just rather start earlier than later because I do want to make sure I am dark enough. I don't tan as easily as I use to.

You have every right to do this to yourself and you say you are aware of the dangers. So I won't try to talk you out of it.

But because this is a huge, well-trafficked public forum, I feel compelled to add my voice to those who are very reasonably pointing out the real dangers of any kind of tanning. For anyone just now considering this, please talk to your dermatologist or any medical expert and listen to what they say about sunbed tanning. There are no benefits and only downsides. There's also NO shame in appearing in your natural skin tone on your wedding day. Embrace the skin you were born with. Smiley heart

I bed tanned before our wedding. I know it isn't good for you but I really never do it, I'm just not a fan of spray tans. I started 1 month before our wedding. I'd go 3-4 times a week for 5 minutes the first week, then increased to 8 minutes, 10 minutes, etc. I paid for a higher membership on the better quality bulbs/beds. I would turn off the face bulbs 90% of the time too. I tan really easily though and really never burn so I wasn't too worried about burning. I used a strong tanning lotion too, then did a lot of body scrubs & lotions at home to keep my skin moisturized.

It really depends on how easily you tan and how dark you want to be. I can usually get some good color in about 2 weeks, but it normally takes a month for me to get a color I really want. I would start going at least a couple of months before your wedding in case you need to even anything out!

Ok so I had the sammmme question. I love tanning in the tanning bed but I have such fair skin and so many freckles and recently I have had some scares of skin cancer so now I have to stay away from the tanning bedSmiley sad... but good news is I found some great tanning products that smell amazing and do not leave me orange.. ok so the one I got that gives me a beautiful tan and glow is called Isle of paradise self tanning drops and it is amazing!!!!! I got it off of QVC website and it was super cheap and on sale. All you do is mix it with your lotion and you get a great tan in 4-6 hours and the thing I love about it is I use it with my face moisturizer and it gives my face a great glow. The other product I would recommend is Tanceuticals. It is also a great self tanner and using these has saved me so much money without me having to pay for a tanning bed, or a spray tan.
