Tanning

Sara, on May 9, 2022 at 10:29 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
I never thought I’d step foot in a tanning bed again, but my photographer has a “no spray tans” written into the contract. He says it photographs funny. So, I can either be pale or fake bake. How far in advance should I start tanning? It has probably been since the mid-90s since I’ve been in a tanning bed!

I should clarify. Contract says editing to fix orange tinting due to spray tans will cost $250/hour so he suggests telling everyone not to spray tan in order to avoid paying that fee.

That’s still the craziest thing I’ve ever heard and doesn’t seem professional honestly

Gross. Nope, red flag on the photographer.

Tanning beds are proven to be bad for you. Skip it and just go to a reputable spray tan place. If you're that worried about it then do a spray tan as a trial a month or so before

A good spray tan shouldn't leave you orange, so I think if you find a good one and get it a couple days in advance, he won't even notice.

I definitely would not use a tanning bed. It's weird that he put that in the contract, that seems like a huge red flag. I would just stay my natural skin tone.

I'd avoid a tanning bed for sure. Like others have said, you can do a spray tan trial run ahead of the wedding so you know you won't be orange on the big day. A good spray tan will look natural so you should be fine. You could also try self-tanner (again, experiment WELL AHEAD of the wedding to make sure it doesn't turn out weird).

Sorry, but I agree with everyone saying this is a major red flag! Your photographer can give advice about the way that spray tans look in photos, but it is bizarre to put that in a contract.

Tanning beds are super harmful for your body! A great spray tan will not leave you looking orange. I would suggest you do a trial with a spray tan place that has great reviews to ensure you like the color and then this won't be a problem!

No one uses tanning beds anymore. I would find a new photographer.

Have you considered natural tanning? How much more tan are you trying to get?

That is really weird from the photographer. Any half decent spray tanner, can tan you in a way that it actually will look natural, and not orangey or muddy looking. I know some photographers advice against spray tans, and some advice FOR spray tans, but the photographer can't really tell you what to do, and having it in the contract is weird.

Tanning beds are really unhealthy. Spray tans are not. I'd suggest finding a spray tan place that can tan you the way you want to be tanned, and do a trial run first.
