Tasting Menu

Sarah, on June 7, 2024 at 4:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
Hi everyone,

Having a destination wedding & a tasting in July. Anyone have advice/tips when choosing menu. Plates or buffet & how to choose food! There’s got to be a strategy to this right?

Deciding between plated and buffet/stations came down to pricing for us. It was about $30 cheaper per person for us to go with buffet/stations. We had two stations which included a craving station and pasta station. The items on the buffet included mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes with gravy and rolls with butter. Prior to dinner there was salad course that was plated. When it came to picking, our venue (in-house catering) went over popular options for buffets/stations and we honestly just picked what we liked best. We picked at the time of booking of venue. Once it was time for our tasting, we got to try everything other than the passed apps that would be served during cocktail hour. They let us know they could make changes to the menu in the event we wanted something different. All of the food was delicious so we stuck with the original menu. I did ask if they could do fried ravioli as a passed app and even though it wasn't on their list of food the chef was happy to accommodate and it turned out delicious as well.

This is great advice thank you, I should’ve mentioned the plated and buffet is the same pricing for us, otherwise that would’ve been the deciding factor for sure 😊

Then I would say it honestly comes down to what you'd prefer. Out of all of the weddings I have been to only one served a plated meal. Their reception place wouldn't have had the space for a buffet in all honesty. Not with the number of tables they had for guests, the DJ station, and a dance floor. One thing I personally like better about the buffet is you can select the food you'd prefer to eat that day rather than a meal well in advance. Plus even if you do have the choice let's say between chicken or beef there's so many different ways those could be done that you might not actually like the option that you pick. But I am also a picky eater so I like being able to have the choice when going up to the buffet.
