Tattoo - Cover up or photoshop out?

FutureMrsC, on June 4, 2014 at 10:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Has anyone had tattoos edited out of their pics? Or do any photographers do so? Looking for an easy alternative to having my girls cover their tattoos.

Photoshopping could be really time intensive, depending on how many, where, obstructions (straps etc), shadowing, etc. Make sure your photographer knows that you want this done before you sign the contract.

Where are the tattoos? Could you find a dress that would cover them up?

My sis has a tattoo on her upper arm, one on each shoulder, another on her bicep, she has the most tatts of the group. The others are all on their upper arm area and one back shoulder. Oh screw it, I'll just have them cover it. Less of a headache.

How many girls have tattoos? Are you expecting the tats to be gone in ALL the images or just for one or two group shots?

Depending on the style of the dress, size of the tattoo, etc. it CAN be really labor intensive to take it out. If it's fully visible (so not half covered by a dress/strap), this is easier to remove than one that's partially covered up by the dress, fyi. I wouldn't mind having to take out a tattoo for one or two of the best shots, but if I had to do it for every one that your bridesmaid(s) are in (especially if there are many maids with tats), it would be tough... You wouldn't get your pictures back quite as quickly, and if it's really labor intensive, I'd have to charge more...

The trouble with coverup though, is that it doesn't always cover it all, AND it can rub off onto your white dress. So use caution and test it out a lot first. It's also hard in hot and humid weather...

Is it possible to just pose the maids so the tattoos aren't visible? Dresses that would cover are a nice thought, but since we don't know the location of the tattoos, I don't know how possible that might be. Are the tattoos really offensive to you? They are obviously important to the person who got them, so how bad will it be to leave them in the photos? All thoughts to ponder before you decide to have your maids cover up.

Don't make them cover them up with makeup. That's so rude. If you can find dresses that cover some of the tattoos that they all like and that fit their budgets, that's a much better way to go.

I would be worried that if you cover them up with makeup that the makeup would rub off on the dress or someone else.

My sister has a big ol' tattoo in the middle of her back that will be clearly visible with their strapless gowns and hair in an updo. But really, it's whatever. It's her body and I still love her, tattoo show or not tattoo showing. I was just at a wedding this weekend and one of the bridesmaids was COVERED in tattoos: arms, chest, back, etc. I don't think it distracted from the bride, groom, or any of the other girls.

Maybe you could get them nice shrugs/jackets for during the ceremony and pictures.

Dresses have already been bought, and unless they wear long sleeved dresses (in Texas, in September, which isn't an option because it will be hot as all hell) all tattoos will be visible. I just wanted to see if maybe it was easier to have them edited out of the photos, but it seems like it will be more expensive/work to go that route.

@MissMadeline - They don't have a problem covering them. I don't think its rude to ask that of them, after all, I'm paying for the pictures, and I have to look at them (pictures) forever.

I didn't think it was rude to ask them....until you made a comment about how you'd have to look at their pictures forever. That's like saying your friends and family and how they choose to look is not good enough for your pictures....which is rude.

However, if you really want them to cover them up.....keep in mind most tattoo cover ups just make the tattoos look like there is bruising under their skin which in my opinion is worse.

Also, given that your wedding is in Texas and it's hot....there is also the chance they can sweat the make up off and get it all over their dresses....which in my opinion will actually make pictures look awful.

Derma blend is the best tattoo cover up, its been around for years. I used it when I was a model years ago to cover my tattoo and freckles on mty shoulders. I will be using it on my wedding too because I hate this tat on my ankle I am getting it removed but it won't be gone by my wedding day I am affraid.

I don't plan on covering any or photo shopping them out. I also didn't get a dress that intentionally covers them (two on my back, one on my ankle end up getting covered). I have a tattoo on each of my wrist that I love and were there before FH even met me. They are a part of who I am and everyone I know, knows they are there.

Photoshopping could be quite time consuming, or very expensive to pay someone to do them, depending on the amount of photos and tattoos.

Are they offensive tattoos and that's why you want them covered? 3 of my bridesmaids have tattoos, and I have two that will be showing. You already said it would be too hot in Texas for sleeves, they may sweat the makeup off too, and that would look way worse than just letting them show.

Also, just because you're paying for the pictures doesn't mean you get to dictate what they do with their bodies. That's a pretty bold/rude statement.

I'm not covering mine. Lettin' my freak flag fly!

I hear Kat Von D has a great tattoo coverup makeup if you're interested in concealing yours.

Wow I agree that it is rude to make them cover up. If you were going to be concerned with something like a tatooed body then you should have picked other people. I would be highly offended if i were asked to cover them with makeup. You also have WAY more than a year...you could have waited to find dresses that would cover the areas you are "concerned" about.

    Mandee, I love you hourglass.

Honestly, I look like this every day. If anyone I was close with....especially my sibling....asked me to change how I look...and have looked for years....because they didnt want me to look like myself in their pictures....I wouldnt be in their wedding.
Bridal party are supposed to be your nearest and dearest.. Not props changed to look how you want.

OMG, I asked the girls, they don't have a problem covering them. Just like it is their preference to have tattoos, it is MY preference NOT to have them in MY wedding pictures.

@Heather A - They are in fact my nearest ad dearest, otherwise I would NOT have asked them to be in my wedding in the first place. Had I chosen other people based on the fact that they don't have tattoos, and posted anything regarding that here, you all would be ready to crucify me. And aren't they props? Aren't we all? We pick dresses, shoes, make up, hair, jewelry, etc. all day long in these forums. How is that NOT like prepping a prop for how you want it to look? Just because I don't want tattoos in my pictures does NOT mean that I love them any less. A simple preference has to be made into something so much more than what it is.

Furthermore, I don't believe I asked for anyone's opinion on whether or not they should be covered in the first place.
