My FH wants us to get tattoo-ed on our honeymoon. Not matching ones, just as an activity one day. His point is that it makes the tattoo even more special. But, I'm very hesitant.. We haven't booked our honeymoon yet, but we're looking at the resort type vacation. Do resorts have tattoo artists? Is it potentially dangerous, especially if it's in a different country? Would I still be eligible to give blood if I get tattooed, say, in Jamaica? Any other things I should take into consideration? I'm open to all thoughts, concerns, opinions on this matter!

I am pretty heavily tattooed and all of my tattoos besides one of them were done by the same tattoo artist. I am extremely picky about who I would allow to tattoo me because I like traditional /neo traditional tattoos and not every artist specializes in that style of tattoo and tattoos are not temporary. There are a lot of tattoo artists that are mediocre at best and a lot of tattoo artists who take walk-ins in big cities don't necessarily specialize in a certain style of tattoo and they are not always very good at what they do. They're really just doing tourist-y tattoos all day long and collecting cash; whereas I share a concept or design I come up with with my artist, we make an appt the following week, and when I arrive my custom art has been drawn up for me and I get it tattooed.

The rules on giving blood are generally pretty strict and I can't because I almost always have a new tattoo so I'm not 100% sure.

I have many tattoos and would advice getting a tattoo in a random shop 1st of all. Secondly I would advise against the timing. Sun exposure, pool & ocean water are a big no no. Depending on the location and size of the tattoo they can take a little longer to heal at times. It’s tricky for first timers to notice signs of infection. So wait till you’re back.

Regarding blood donation, you’d have to wait a year after getting the tattoo.
