Tea length dress

Dbs623, on August 22, 2017 at 9:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Does anyone have experience shopping for a tea length dress? I already have a wedding ceremony dress but am wanting to change for reception.

I am getting a tea length dress. Justin Alexander has some really nice ones! Im getting one of his. I searched the dress tab on here under all different designers and found ones I liked. Then I looked up the designers site. Most of their sites have a store locator so you can see if any stores carry the designer and style number you want to try! I found my dress at a local boutique a few towns over from me, about half an hour away!

I, too am changing into a tea length. On most websites, you can search by dress length. If you do not want to order online I would call local stores and provide the dress item number.

Mon Cheri has several, and they are priced decently.

    Check frenchnovelty.com, that's where I ordered mine.

    IMHO, don't do it.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the dress was a "tea length" dress. The dress hit all of us in a very weird zone, was not flattering, and really should have either been either 2 inches higher or just a floor length dress. I ended up hemming mine afterwards so I could use it again for formal events.

True tea length dresses are supposed to hit about 4 inches below the knee, around mid-calf, but designers all have different ideas about exactly how long to go and depending on your proportions, tea length may not work for you. Ask the fellow bridesmaid in the aforementioned wedding who is 5'2" and all torso.

Just a cautionary tale...I know they are very popular and many people wear them with no problem.

One website had four different lengths that were above floor length so, you definitely have options that will help with what Abbie is describing. Based on her thoughts, I would say try them on and see how it feels when you approach others to speak or to dance.

Abbie, my fiance hasn't even seen the dress in person yet and he totally pointed out that it will be annoying to dance with lol.

I absolutely loved my tea length dress. I doubted myself at first, but I did not have to worry about bustles, stepping on my dress, or other things. FB99 and I have the same dress, there's another lady out there too! Davids Bridal FTW!

I wanted a tea length dress originally but had a difficult time finding one I liked. I ending up buying a full length and having it shortened to a high-low where the "high" hem hit at my mid-calf. Letting the shop attendants know I was considering shortening my dress definitely helped thought because they were able to show me gowns that would be able to be shortened without looking ridiculous. just another idea in case you don't kind a ready made one you like.

I believe tea length dresses are generally supposed to be worn by taller folks -like 5'8 and up? A true tea length dress should fall right at mid calf which isn't necessarily the most flattering spot (widest part of calf and shortens legs) unless you wear heels.

I was considering tea length too but since my FH is only 2 inches taller than me and I didn't want to tower over him in heels, I'm instead opting for a hemlime just below the knee now which will elongate my legs but still looks nice with flats. Happy shopping!

I did a tea length dress! I got mine from David's Bridal, but I think I shopped end of season, so they had very limited selection in store. I loved this one though.

I'm 5'4 and didn't need to take my dress up at all on the bottom.

I think it hit perfectly, and I wore tall heels.

So, clearly not everyone is having the same experience with tea length. Short people are definitely not excluded!

@fb99, those comments are so strange to me. If someone wants to wear a tea length dress they ABSOLUTELY should! I always wanted a tea length. Tried on a few ball gowns and mermaids and what not and hated them on me. I loved the tea length. Anyone can where any kind of dress they want, as long as they feel BEAUTIFUL in it, its all that matters. No one has to be a certain height or anything like that to wear a.certain style dress.

People are taking the height comments too personally. It's just about the aesthetics how people's legs look in tea length dresses -they get shortened.

Of COURSE nobody HAS to be a certain height but taller folks will not have to deal with the shortened leg issue by virtue of their height! Wearing heels can also do the trick. It's no biggie if people don't care about having shorter looking legs but some people do aim to have a certain aesthetic on their wedding day to perhaps look taller or curvier or whatever makes them feel most beautiful. Just like how shapewear smooths out cellulite bumps or tummy bulges or push up bras fill out someone's chest more for a curvier silhouette.

I will echo the other posters, it's called alterations. That's like saying you can only wear pink on Wednesdays.

Thanks all! I'm actually 5'8 so tea length on me usually is on the shorter side, depending on the designer.
