Teeth whitening-???

Carol, on September 4, 2017 at 9:20 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 22

Hi everyone! My FH and I have decided to go for teeth whitening treatments before the big day but have no idea where to start figuring out what kind of whitening to do. We definitely want to do a professional one instead of an at-home one. I did a quick search and found out that there are several different types- Zoom, Lumibright, Absolute White... Has anyone done a professional teeth whitening? Which would you recommend or are they all the same? Thanks all!

We were going to do the same thing. Our dentist recommended the 3D white at home line, including prewhitening rinse, toothpaste, and strips for the most safe way to whiten your teeth

I went through my dentist and they did impressions in the office and gave me the whitening treatment. So then I was just able to do it for 2 weeks at home and then check back in with them. So I'd definitely talk to your dentist

My dentist also recommended the at home treatments, saying they are just as cost effective. I was using a bleach treatment from my orthodontist that was safe with my braces and am now going back to crest white strips with my retainer.

I have the 30 day 3D white kit at home; its definitely more affordable, but if you have tooth sensitivity it may not be a good idea. It makes me feel like i'm biting on metal. I did maybe 10 treatments, and there is a difference, but I think i'll buy the instant kit next time, because I do not like that feeling!

I work in a dental office, my advice is definitely get your teeth cleaned before you do whitening, if your not regularly doing so already. Whitening gel won't do much if there's a whole lot of tartar and plaque built up.

I've personally tried zoom at another office when I was really young (17 I think) and it hurt soooo much. I got zingers in my teeth the whole day afterwards.

We use opalescence whitening in office but crest strips work just as well Smiley smile

Zoom worked so well for me. If you have sensitive teeth, I wouldn't suggest it though. You have the option of four sessions, I think ten minutes each but I only made it three sessions because my teeth were starting to hurt. That night they were definitely sensitive but the next day completely fine. I also took home a little kit to use with the Zoom product but barely use it because my teeth are so white.

I use the trays you sleep in and the opalescence whitening gel from my dentist the most expensive part was the custom trays but i needed them made anyway because im getting a fake tooth made

    Thanks everyone!

I wanted to go for a professional whitening because I heard the at-home kits make your teeth really sensitive and I already have sensitive teeth. I guess that really doesn't matter then. It seemed the most common one was the Zoom whitening, but maybe we'll just go with the strips or something else at home to keep costs down.

So, I know you've said you want to do a professional whitening, however...

Someone posted a thread about this within the last week, and one poster mentioned a product called My Magic Mud and how amazing it was. I'd seen it before and thought it looked crazy, but after seeing the post about it I sucked it up and bought a tube.

THAT SHIT IS AMAZE-BALLS. Seriously. I have wicked sensitive teeth, and after three days of using it my sensitivity levels have been halved, easily. After two uses my teeth were noticeably whiter, and at the end of the day I don't have that "film" that you get after having eaten and drank throughout the day without brushing. It's seriously cool stuff and it WORKS. If you can get past the fact that it's clay and charcoal based, has no foaming action and turns your mouth black while you're brushing...try it.

@Abbie that sounds like something I'd be willing to get my hands on and try out! You definitely sold it really well haha. I didn't see that thread strangely. Is it expensive?

I would talk to your dentist. I won't do trays through my dentist because they will leave my teeth super sensitive, and it's painful. But I would do the at home strips. They work perfectly and I never have a problem!

I'm thinking the same thing but more at home treatment.

I had a professional whitening before about 6 years ago and omg it was soo painful the sensitivity during treatment was extremely painful but I was warned about that. From my understanding however the new treatments do not cause sensitivity like the old ones had. My teeth are fairly white but I do whiten once a year at home. I use the rembrandt 2 hour whitening system as well as rembrandt toothpaste.

@Katie that's amazing that it lasted basically this whole time with only a little bit of touch ups. My other issue is that I don't want to have to keep going back to get whitening done every few months or anything because of money and of course pain/sensitivity.

@Carol You will have to whiten again even if you go the dental office route. Whitening doesnt last forever and results vary due to many factors. For me the Rembrandt system works, i think that is what is maintaining my teeth pearly white. I also quit smoking 2 years ago but my teeth were white even when I smoked. I drink lots of coffee but that hasnt affected my teeth either. Regular flossing is also important as it keeps stones at bay and maintains heathy teeth, I floss at least 3 times a day always after every meal

@Katie thank you for all of the information! I don't smoke but I do drink a lot of coffee and tea throughout the day.

@Orchids wow, that's terrible, I'm sorry to hear that. I definitely don't want that happening. Maybe we should go sooner rather than later in case it causes a lot of pain and sensitivity. Thank you for the heads up!
