Tell Me Of Your David's Bridal Experience

AmyMarie, on April 8, 2009 at 7:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

I posted a discussion last month titled "Bride Not Looking Forward To Dress Shopping". My appointment at David's in Allentown (Whitehall) is tomorrow at 12:30 and I would like some pro's and con's of your dress shopping experience there. How hard are they on you to try to make a sale that day? Do they make you feel uncomfortable with their sales tactics? Do they take the time to take your measurements correctly (bust, waist, hips, etc) or do they just get the dresses and guess your size?

These are just some of the questions but please, tell me how it went for you. Thanks!

Honestly it depends on the store, I know that's not very helpful but I had 2 appointments at 2 different David's Bridals on after the other and I almost didn't go to the second one cuz the first one was so horrible. My consultant at the first store was obviously just concerned with her commission. I told her what I wanted and my beget from the minute I walked in and she brought me dresses that were literaly like 3-5 times my budget. The second one however was attentive and catered to me I walked out of there that day with 2 dresses. I read your original post and my only advice is to try on EVREYTHING I walked in thinking I knew what I wanted and walked out with something completely different and I love it. Good luck HTH

I had a wonderful experience with davids Bridal. The original day that I went I had my MOh and 2 other Bridesmaids with me. I started to try on dresses and my consultant in no way pressured me. I thought i had found my dress and made an appointment to come back the next day with my mom, my consultant told me she would not be there but told me who to ask for. The next day when I returned I was not happy with the consultant that I had but got help from other consultants and bought my dress.

My experience was okay there but they were busy and i ended up getting my MOH to help me just sneak in dresses to try them on instead of waiting on the salesperson. my person also kept trying to say okay so let me write this down, you like it, alterations would be this...... i basically just had to keep saying no. but other brides to be were there and there salesperson was really nice and helpful.

I had 2 experiences at DB- The first sent me into the only time that i have been bridezilla. I had an appmt and when i got there i still had to wait almost 30 minutes before they would get me a consultant. And there were other brides with no appointment just walking in and getting help. The 2nd time diff store was not as bad but not great! I had to buy a dress that day so i told them that when i first got here that i wasn't leaving without a dress. The girls are very commission orientated and want all they can off u . Dont give in to the oh this veil and tiara match you will waste 300 or more dollars as well as shoes dont bother, as well as the slip and bra they are awful and uncomfy in the worst way. They tell you that your dress wont look the same without it well they are wrong i got a slip online for 20 bucks off ebay better quality and made my dress look way better! So dont buy into the extras just get the dress. Also the sizing is a little off so dont be discouraged by that. GL

My experience was ok, but not fantastic. I have very specific taste so I think it helped. My MOH and I actually walked around the store and found dresses that we felt fit my style and since it was so crowded (never go on a Saturday), I had plenty of time to see what I liked/disliked. So by the time I finally got into my fitting room, I gave the rep a list of what I wanted to try on and found the dress of my dreams at a great price. Good Luck!

If your experience isn't good, try just going to a smaller local place. The closest davids bridal for me is 3 hours away, so i went to my small, local place. They had a good variety of dresses (different styles) and i ended up getting very close 1 on 1 attention, i walk in there now, and they know me by name Smiley laugh. it is very nice to know the people that you are buying a dress from. they sat down with me and let me flip thru magazines as well, incase something caught my attention. but they were very helpful as opposed to going to a more "known" place. just a thought tho.

I loved all of the sales ladies every time I went to DB. My first time there I had a lady get all different types of dresses for me. She was super sweet and great to work with. The day I bought my dress I worked with a different sales lady and she to was super sweet.

I think it really depends on each DB store. My experience at DB was wonderful! Smiley smile All the ladies there were really nice and not pushy at all. Plus I was there by myself, but it was just great!

Yes, they do take your measurements. Be sure to explain to them what you are looking for. I let them know what I was looking for in terms of style and price and she said okay, let's see what we have... I ended up trying on 7 dresses! Smiley smile

In the end it came down to 2, so I tried them on again and I knew it was going to be one of them. The ladies there wouldn't tell me which one they liked the best until I made my decision. They were really great and wanted to be sure that I picked the one that I liked the best and not anyone else.

I would say relax and have fun... If you feel uncomfortable just leave and go to another store because this should be a wonderful experience and not something you will look back on and regret!

I had a pretty good DAvids Bridal experience.

    The cons:

I was unaware I needed an appointment so had to go twice

I wasnt the only one the lady was helping..there were about 3 more

They didnt have bras for the busty gal lol

and no the didnt measure anything just asked me pants size

Pros: I didnt feel pressured by sales tactics

The lady was very helpful and gave me honest oppinions about the dresses

I wasnt pushed to buy a dress that day ( I did anyway)

I found a beautiful perfect dress!

I've heard nothing but bad things about Davids Bridal... I'm not too sure if it's just our store or all in general. I'm a bridesmaid in someone else's wedding and she decided to get the BM dresses there. Out of the 6 bridesmaids they gave 4 of us a 20% discount but not to the other 2. When I went to pick up my dress I decided to try it on first and I found they had ordered me the wrong size, I then found out that one of the other BMs tried hers on and it was longer on one side than the other. So we had to reorder and now our dresses wont be in til May and the wedding is June 6th! Lets just say I def won't be going there for my dresses!

I am also going by myself. Going to a boutique or smaller shop is not an option for me since all of the ones I have called have 1-2 dresses around my size (plus size) and were way over my budget. I am not the naieve type and if better service is needed, I will definitly say something.

I was engaged before years ago which of course did not transpire and was called off. I went to another David's Bridal in another location some 12-18 years ago for a dress and they were rude, not helpful at all and I did something about it. I called the Better Business Bureau on that particualr store and I was not the only one. They had about 5 complaints about that store. That store is still up and running but the consultant AND the manager were fired.

I need them to take my measurements. If I leave without a dress, I will need to give them my measurements at a later date to order the right size. If they refuse, I guess I will have to do what I did before but want to avoid that.

I had a very good exper. at Monroville Pa store. The first time I went I had a new consultant and she really just did the run and fetch it thing, I had no clue what I wanted or anything, I made another appoint. and they gave me a different consultant and she was awesome, I tried every gown on in the store, they basically asked what size cloths I wore and we went from there, but dont limit yourself to just that I ended up being sized an 8 or 10 in certain gowns, and the one I ended up with was a fluke it was in the wrong size area it was a 6 and it fit like a glove. All my bridesmaids had a great time also with theirs, the same girl has helped so much, we have been there so often trying on gowns, as far as high preasure sales I have had no problem if they want your buisness they will do anything to make you happy if that means 20 appoin. then so be it.

I have been to davids a few times as both BM and Bride and have found the service and personal attention wonderful. BUT I have had issues with the sizes. At my girlfriends wedding we went to davids to try on BM dresses and had them picked out in seconds. Mine fit perfect, the MOH's dress was a bit loose and the other BM who was a plus size her dress fit perfect. The woman told us that when we order the dresses to understand that the dresses can be up to 1/4 inch tighter because these ones have been tried on a lot and can streach out. For that reason I ordered mine a size larger. All of us had issues with the dresses that came in. Mine was too tight at a size bigger then in the store, the MOH couldnt even zip hers up and the other BM ordered the same size she tried on and it was falling off her. The dresses were still beautiful but I would make sure you have a person you trust to make the changes you need. Davids charges a lot for theres. Keep it in mind if the fit is tight or close.

Thats why I am going to have them take my measurements. It is crucial if I have to order my dress instead of purchasing off-the-rack. Again, if they refuse then I will have to take the 'bull by the horns' but I should NOT have to....get my point?

I had a good experience with DB. The 1st appt, I didn't really like that girl, she ended up ditching me for other customers and an alterations girl ended up helping me. The 2nd time I went the original girl had quit and I had a really great lady help me. No pressure whatsoever to buy anything, she was just there to help. I looked at some smaller boutiques too and I was really unimpressed by their service. I asked for several specific things and they would not help me, I was also pretty much ignored by the girl and then she tried to pressure me into a dress. Eventually I went back to the lady at DB and told her I was trying on 3 dresses and picking from those because I HAD to order or I wouldn't have a dress in time. he was great and very helpful again even though it was a REALLY busy day. I bought one of the 3 that day. I went back a couple of months later to get my daughter's dress without an appt and although she was busy w/others she was very helpful again and we bought that too.

We had a great experience when my Mom got married. My sister and I have extremely different body types, but Mom wanted us in the same dress. So the lady gave us each a bunch of things to try until we found something we both looked good in. And Mom they treated her like a princess. All she said was "simple" and she tried on at least a dozen gorgeous dresses before she found one she loved. The lady was never pushy or frustrated. Just eager to help us find what we wanted.

I went to DB knowing they wouldn't have a dress that I liked. Just wanted to try it out to make sure. Anyway, I told the consultant what I was looking for. She told me to go pick out some shoes while she got a bra in my size and a slip. Then, while I changed into the bra and slip, she went to pick out some dresses. Oh yeah, before all of that, I had to look through the catalog and choose 3 dresses that I like. She brought the dresses for me to try on and I didn't like any of them. The one I did like, they didn't have in my size. So for the next hour, she had me trying on dresses that were not the style I told her I liked. I should've been walked out but she would not quit and I guess I'm too nice to say leave me alone lady.

I visited 3 David's Bridal stores in my area and 7 other bridal stores before buying my dress. One had a very helpful consultant who showed me ideas for altering my dress to personalize it. The second one didn't help me much because I told her I was only looking at the dresses in their $99 sale & the selection was already picked over. The third one, I told her the same thing and they showed me what they had in my size. I tried on everything in my size in that price range and found the perfect dress for me - at the $99 price. The consultant there had 3 other brides and left me alone for almost an hour. I had a friend with me, we just kept going with out her...get more dresses, hang the discards outside my dressing room. For the price you can't beat it, but the service wasn't great. I didn't get measured because I knew I was picking up off the rack. Once I bought it, they kept the dress for 3 weeks to do a bead check and make sure it was in good condition.

Well davids bridal was my 2nd bridal store to try....no i take that back, it was the third bc it was my second time being there i remember being there with my ex moh/best friend. anyway the first time i was there noone really helped...the second time i went there it was just me and my mom. the lady that helped us kim was very awesome! she used to be likea wedding pklanner/cordinator. she was very patient with me. she gave me ideas for my western wedding. she ended up picking out a dress that originally i thought that me and my mom wouldnt like (me and her both kept on goin back and forht on afew) so this was the last dress i tried on and all three of us loved it! and it was on sale it was dicontinued (it was orignally 950, but it got knocked down to 650 lil bit more than i wanted to spend, but it was worht it). whenever my girls went in she was very helpful with them. (given the fact that a. i was ogoing to go with two colors but ended up going with one bc of just several problems tbc
