Tent Rental advice

Crystal, on June 17, 2019 at 2:49 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 4

My daughter's reception will be outdoors 8/31/19 so we have been looking into tent rentals for 120 people in the Chicagoland area. I've spoken to 3 different places and each one tells me all costs are non-refundable! That seems crazy to me! Basically, you have to pay for a tent whether or not you use it.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

Outside of purchasing a tent and returning it (if that’s even a possibility), I don’t think there’s anything you can do. I will say that of course businesses charge you regardless of if you use their product or not. They’re holding their inventory for you to use which means they’re turning other potential clients away. Let’s say a deposit of $200 is due when you book but the rental costs $2,000. If you are allowed to decide up until the day of that you don’t need the tent/won’t pay the balance, that’s $1,800 they could be out because they couldn’t rent that tent to someone else.

We looked into tent options where we live too and the "best" option we found was a company that refunded if we cancelled within 7 days, but a majority of the companies did charge 50-100% as a non-refundable deposit upfront. Like Sarah said, these tents are expensive and they lose out if you decide last minute you don't want it, most companies want to make sure they're not out all the money they planned on if it's nice out and everyone cancels.

    Hey Crystal!

Unfortunately, the pp’s are correct on this matter. Rental companies do not want to be out of pocket if the weather is nice and all of their bookings cancel last minute. Perhaps you could rent a tent and use it as an area of shade for your guests should the sun be shining on your daughter's wedding day?

I agree with this. Just use the tent whether it rains or not! It's nice to have a place for shade and ambiance and etc.
