Terms of Endearment

OGSue, on April 29, 2015 at 10:42 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 84

My friends and family always make fun of the fact that FH and I use a term of endearment when we talk to each other, it's not overly creative but we almost always call each other "Babes"; I believe in the past I have gone weeks without actually using FH's name to get his attention. My friends think it's corny, but whatever we both find it sweet.

How do you feel about terms of endearment? Do you and your SO acknowledge each other with a term of endearment, if so what?

We have weird nicknames for each other. She calls me Science. I call her Grammar. It confuses the hell out of everyone and we're very happy with that.

FH uses my real name maybe once or twice a year, that's it. He calls me babe, leesel, and (super embarrassing) tickle butt or tick for short. He's so weird. I just call him Mike. Sometimes Michael, or babe.

My mom once posted on my FB wall "Happy Easter honey bunny!"

...so now FH calls me honey bunny all the time.

Nothing too exciting, usually just babe, although sometimes we use rascal, or say the other one s being rascal-ly.

We call each other babe/babes too, I'll throw in a honey here and there and sometimes I will say really weird off the wall names just to be funny. ex. sugar biscuit. I find myself hilarious.

I call FH bunny, bunny-mine and babe. I only call him by his name to get his attention, when I am mad, or to wake him up off the couch when he is snoring!

He calls me: specializer, R1(rotten one), S1 (special 1) and sweetheart. Smiley smile

Terms of endearment are fine, just don't use them constantly in front of other people. It gets annoying.

My husband only calls me "Princess" at home in a joking way. "I was going to book that, but princess would not enjoy that type of room". I rarely EVER hear him say my actual name, and when I do...I'm convinced that there's villiany coming.

I refer to him as "Charles" when I want something, complete in the voice of Ian McKellan from X-men. Normally he goes by "Chuck" and I only scream that when I'm trying to locate what floor of the house he's on.

Other than that no. I think he's called me "babe" on occasion. I'm not an effusive affectionate person though.

Very early on in our relationship my FH and I were at a renaissance faire in garb, I was in red. I am naturally very pale, dark hair and I had on a lot of blush, red lips and my hair all done in curls and a woman came up to me and wanted to take a picture because she said I looked like a "china doll". My Fh thought that was hilarious and ever since then has called me babydoll. I call him pumpkin, which is appropriate, he has orange-red hair, his favorite color is orange and his favorite season is Fall.

Lol @AthenaKay. That's true though. I've always called him babe and he just calls me Vicki when I'm around but when I'm not he'll refer to me as his girl or his baby, and now of course fiancee- my fave of them all.

I call him Matthew or handsome. He calls me Pretty or Spank (short for Spanky, I don't even remember where or why he started that but its not bedroom related haha). We usually don't use it in front of people other than our immediate family. His mom jokingly sometimes calls me Spank.

If we are in public he calls me Melissa. I always call him Matthew. I like full names. If I call him Matt he knows I'm not happy.

FH calls me "baby" or "babe" most of the time. Which is funny because it started from making fun of other couples who only called each other that, so I'm an asshole.

But we also call each other really lame stuff like "hubbykins" and "wifeykins" because that's how his boss and his wife refer to each other and we think it's nauseating.

I also go out of my way to call him really obnoxious things like "Booboo kitty fuck" from Jay and Silent Bob lol. Idk how he deals with me.

Annoying or not, we call each other babe, baby, wiffey and hoosband, and hun or honey, in private. I cant remeber the last time I called him Ken. My main pet name for him always in public or not, though, is Doo...when we were just friends I would tease him and call him Kennydoo...not sure why, but the Doo part has stuck and I sometimes forget that his name is not actually Doo! Lol He calls me Q (short for Suzy Q) and many times people refer to us as Q and the Doo. Like...hey! Lets call Q and the Doo and go out. So dumb.......lmao. Cant lie though, Im probably going to have cocktail napkins with Q and the Doo with our wedding date made for our reception...again so dumb and unnecessary, but for some reason...so necessary! Lol

Hmmm...it's actually very rare when we use terms of endearment. If we ever do, it's mostly in a joking fashion. All our nicknames for each other are literally just that, some variation of our real names. I call in banjer butt, and he calls me....actually I think he usually just calls me Jennifer. Man, I didn't even notice until now. That, or we just scream "Hey, where are you?!"

Umm... @Future Mrs. Myers...... Sugar biscuit? You're kidding. I tried this awful recipe for "toll house sugar cookies" once and they were awful. They had the consistency of chewy biscuits... So DH now sometimes calls me sugar biscuit. Didn't know anyone else used that term lol!!!

We call each other dear all the time. I rarely actually call him by his first name. One time he was looking for me at the store so I called out dear on accident to get his attention.

I never use FHs real name. If I do he knows I am serious. But I call him Babe all the time. He mostly calls me Tori or Tor. Sometimes T. He does call me Angel when he is about to ask for something.

I love that he never knows what to call my parents Mr & mrs he says feels weird. so he just avoids using their names. Smiley smile
