Terms of Endearment

My friends and family always make fun of the fact that FH and I use a term of endearment when we talk to each other, it's not overly creative but we almost always call each other "Babes"; I believe in the past I have gone weeks without actually using FH's name to get his attention. My friends and family always make fun of the fact that FH and I use a term of endearment when we talk to each other, it's not overly creative but we almost always call each other "Babes"; I believe in the past I have gone weeks without actually using FH's name to get his attention. My friends think it's corny, but whatever we both find it sweet.

How do you feel about terms of endearment? Do you and your SO acknowledge each other with a term of endearment, if so what?

He's not a fan of me using his name unless I'm upset, so it's always baby. If I'm talking to a group of people and regardless if he's present or not, I say his name (James). I only say babe/baby to him, not when I talk about him.

I call FW babe or baby. When I want something it's definitely baby. She calls me babe, hun or woman. Usually woman when she thinks being funny will get her something.

We usually call each other babe and fiancé most recently. But nicknames only we understand are he is Butthead and I am Beavis. We also call each other Johnny, lol. It's an inside joke within his group of friends of over 20 years that they call each other Johnny, when we started dating I would do a silly accent and always tell him that's "Poifect Johnny" and so the nickname kind of stuck and it's my favorite. Smiley smile

LOL these are awesome!! They really put a smile on my face! If I wasn't at work I'd "like" all of these but the computers here suck and it takes forever to do so!

FH and I do have other nicknames for each other - he sometimes calls me "sexy", and I call him "handsome"; or if we're around friends I'll sometimes refer to him as "my slut", however that's purely for comedic effect. Definitely in public when I'm not directly talking with him but with others I'll refer to him by name.

We almost always call each other boo, but we like to get crazy sometimes and say things like boobuttandface, boobuttbrains, booface, booRadley, booGehrig, booReed....you get the idea. I also use hon a lot because Baltimore, I guess. Sometimes I call him Neil Armstrong (his middle name is Neil) and he likes to string a bunch of f-words together when he's jokingly-annoyed with me. It's endearing.

We sounds weirder when I type this all out.

Actual names are rarely used at home. Usually some variation of babe or hun. He is about the only one who calls me by Melissa. Friends and family always tend to shorten it

I don't know how I could forget out nighttime nicknames.. his parents used to always say "Bedtime for bonzo!", so when we moved in together he started saying that to me. So at night now, he'll call me Bonzo. Which has now transformed into all kind of different things like Bonz Angeles, Bonzaga, Jesse Bonzopolis, Bonzipedia, Indiana Bonz, Bonz Solo, etc.

It is one of my favorite things.

I love when this question gets asked. So the first time I met his mom, we were looking at old baby pictures and she was telling me all kinds of embarrassing stories about him. She told me that she had her family place bets on which day he would be born on. This was the first time he heard the story, as well. Well you paid however much money to pick a day, and if she had him on the day you picked, you got to name him. Her brother picked the correct day and wanted to name him Biff. His mom didn't name him Biff, obviously. But when he heard this he just thought it was the coolest thing ever. So later that evening we went out and tied on a good buzz and he decided that Biff would be his alter-ego, and his full name would be Biff Bocephus Cougarbear. (The Bocephus is for Hank Williams, Jr. and the Cougarbear is just because he is a dork). Well I told him that if he had a nickname, I needed one too. I decided I would be Belle Mae Bucksaddle. Together with our redneck ass names, we went into a random bar and told everyone we were Biff and Belle and we put on these fake accents and told everyone we were on the run from the law in Alabama and making our way up to Chicago for a drug deal or something crazy. We were the life of the party that night and had an absolute blast.

It just stuck. I don't remember the last time he called me Kendra. He mainly calls me Belle, but also Belle Mae, Little Belle, LB, Belle Face Hundo, and a few other random things. He calls me Murph sometimes as well. Short for Murphy's Law- I tend to be really clumsy. And I call him Biff, Biff Daddy, or Biff Head. We use babe and baby fairly often too. We seriously never use each other's real names. Maybe when we are in an especially heated argument. But it's rare. I got cards at my bridal shower with "Biff and Belle" written on the front of them. I love it.

Usually, we just refer to each other as "dear". However, if we really have to get the other's attention, we'll use our actual names.

We never call each other by name. The only time we do is to get each others' attention in a room or place where there's a lot of people. It's mostly "baby," "babe," or "bae." Sometimes "hun" or "honey."

We use all of the typical nicknames (babe, baby, honey, sweetie). Before we started dating he would call me Morgan because he thinks he's hilarious (Freeman is my last name), so occasionally that pops back up. I call him William quite often. It is actually his first name but has always went by David and used to get really mad at his brothers for calling him that. I call him punkin butt sometimes lol

We will call each other by our names when we are trying to get each other's attention or we are annoyed with each other. Otherwise, it's only nicknames for us. He uses for me pumpkin, baby, baby girl, honey, my love, my wife. I call him babe, baby, sugar, sweetie, my hubby, my old man. I am sure we will add on more over time.

I'm surprised that FH and I ended up using terms of endearment. I'm usually the kind of girl who hates when other people use cutesy nicknames or when a waitress calls me "hun" or "sweetie". All the same (and I'm not sure when it started) we both started calling each other "babe" and "honey". Although when he's being particularly sweet, he calls me "my slender small love" which is from a song "Flower of Beauty" that he and I both sang in choir. He doesn't know this yet but I'm walking down the aisle to that song. . .

I honestly can't remember the last time I heard him say my name. Not because of nicknames, but because we're always around each other so we never have to get each others attention..

That being said I guess he calls me 'love' and he's 'sweetheart'.

We have way more nicknames for our cats than each other.
