TERRIBLE Wedding Songs

I wanted to make a fun post! Has anyone went to a wedding where the DJ played something completely inappropriate for a wedding??? Or maybe tell us a song you absolutely do not want for your first dance or at your reception. One of the most hilarious (my mother would use the term mortifying) stories...

I wanted to make a fun post! Has anyone went to a wedding where the DJ played something completely inappropriate for a wedding??? Or maybe tell us a song you absolutely do not want for your first dance or at your reception.

One of the most hilarious (my mother would use the term mortifying) stories from my parent's wedding centers around their first dance.

After they went to the dance floor, the DJ decided to get creative with his song choice. He played "As we lay" by Shirley Murdock, made popular again by Kelly Price years later. If you don't know this song, it's about two lovers laying in bed the morning after and realizing they have to go back home to their spouses.

Now that I'm planning a wedding this story gets brought up a lot. And I plan to have a very detailed list of songs to be played/not played.

I went to a wedding where the DJ played "Gold Digger" by Kanye West. The song is inappropriate but when a guest gets on a mic, dedicates it to the bride, and then sings it.... awkward.

Lol...we have toyed around with mixing started from the bottom now we're here in with our first dance song. Lord know our relationship train has been up and down.

I don't really have any terrible song experiences, but these are hilarious!

My string quartet once played a song for the bride to walk down the aisle, by request of the bride and groom: "I Think I Wanna Marry You." Um, hon, at this point you should really be certain.

Also anything Adele has ever done. Another request was Make You Feel My Love. "I know you haven't made your mind up yet..." People should really google the lyrics of their songs to make sure what sounds like a sweet love song isn't actually about a breakup, unrequited love, stalkers, etc!

Last wedding I went to they sent song requests with invites and the songs requested were played but no one danced. So the dj switched it from rap to oldies to backstreet boys. I was so embarrassed.

When we were picking our first dance song my DH suggested Imogen Heap's Goodnight and Go. He knew I liked the song a lot and he thought it was really pretty (sure, it is) but I was shocked by that suggestion. I made him listen to it again and explained the lyrics to him - it's about a stalker watching a guy through his window and plotting to trick him into being with her.... We did not use that song.

My father daughter dance was awkward AF. I requested Brown Eyed Girl since my parents used to sing it to me as a kid. I heard the lyrics as an adult, and changed my mind to Isn't She Lovely. The DJ must not have received to updated email. because Brown Eyed Girl with the inappropriate lyrics were played. Awkward.

I've been to weddings where the bride and groom walk in with Marry You and Blurred Lines. Neither of them I feel is appropriate for a wedding. lol

We told our DJ that she could play anything after DH's grandparents had left. Never did we expect one of the groomsmen to get drunk and suggest Fuck Her Gently. He was also confused when he told the DJ that his grandparents had left. MIL was mortified. DH's grandparents found it hilarious though.

My uncle had the DJ play "Paradise By the Dashboard Lights" at his wedding. I'm not sure what he was thinking with that one.

"Roxanne" by The Police, for those of you who don't know it it's about a man who is in love with a prostitute asking her to stop selling her body, definitely inappropriate.

My DH used Danger Zone as the garter toss song. Inappropriate and/or hilarious. I still haven't figured that out yet. Smiley tongue

@Star that was ours too. DH is a huge Loggins fan though. Our first dance was to a Loggins song and he also insisted that Footloose be played later in the evening as well.

@JaKLyn OMG that is awful!! The song is hilarious but my family would kill the DJ if he played that at my wedding.

For the recessional my friend used You Belong To Me by....well shoot! I can't remember the artist.

But it's a Christian song that's basically talking about coming back to your spouse after turmoil or separation--it's not a song you'd use in a first time marriage. Lol

....did not apply to the couple at all, so needless to say we snickered behind her back at it.

A bride I knew (2nd wedding) walked down the aisle to "Love Remains the Same" by Gavin Rossdale. I wouldn't say its the WORST choice, but for the aisle walk, I thought it was an odd choice:

A thousand times I’ve seen you standing

    Gravity like a lunar landing

Make me want to run till I find you

I shut the world away from here

Drift to you, you’re all I hear

Everything we know fades to black

Half the time the world is ending

Truth is I am done pretending

I never thought that I had anymore to give

    Pushing me so far

    Here I am without you

Drink to all that we have lost

    Mistakes we have made

    Everything will change

    But love remains the same

Find the place where we escape

Take you with me for a space

The city buzz, sounds just like a fridge

I walk the streets through seven bars

I had to find just where you are

The faces seems to blur, they’re all the same

Half the time the world is ending

Truth is I am done pretending

I never thought that I had anymore to give

    Pushing me so far

    Here I am without you

Drink to all that we have lost

    Mistakes we have made

    Everything will change

    But love remains the same

    So much more to say

    So much to be done

    Don’t you trick me out

    We shall overcome

So all have stayed in place

We should have had the sun

    Could have been inside

    Instead we’re over here

Half the time the world is ending

Truth is I am done pretending

Too much time, too long defending

You and I are done pretending

I never thought that I had anymore to give

    Pushing me so far

    Here I am without you

Drink to all that we have lost

    Mistakes we have made

    Everything will change

    Everything will change

    I, oh I, I

    wish this could last forever

    I, oh I, I

As if we could last forever

    Love remains the same

    Love remains the same

LMAO @Richard! I love that song from Chess and I do it at Karaoke with a friend of mine, but I have to agree, it's not appropriate for Weddings.

I went to a wedding where the bride and groom danced to Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Yeah, no, it was a song that was written after he left his wife and he had a string of affairs and had given up on love. Not really a "wedding song".

My FH is Hispanic...specifically requested the DJ not to play nor accept requests for.... & I don't know the name but it's basically the Mexican line dance and it speeds up as the song progresses. He says he doesn't want everyone running around the venue. lol I don't know what they're saying in the song but he just doesn't want it.

I was at a wedding where they played "turn down for what" FOUR TIMES. 3 times at the reception and they also walked in to the song. I get it's a party song and I don't hate it... but four times?!
