Thank you note wording for monetary gifts

SimpleSeamstress, on July 24, 2015 at 1:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Any recommendations for wording for monetary gifts? All the articles I see mention saying how you intend to use the money. The most common being saving for a house. Purchasing a house is not likely in our near future (we live in CA, go figure) and will be either putting the money in savings or using it to bring down some debt. Does the intended use of the money need to be stated in the note? Can I just say that it will be used towards our future together? Ahhh, so awkward!

I don't think it's necessary to say what you'll be spending it on. Heather's suggestion is spot-on.

Thank you for spending our day with us, your presence made the day that much more special to DH and I. Thank you as well for you very generous monetary gift, DH and I will put it to good use as we start our married life together.

Personally, I'm a fan of writing more than 1 generic sentence in thank you cards and making them more personable

I did something along the lines of "Thank you for your generous gift. We are upgrading some of our household necessities so it will definitely be put to good use." Then, if they came to our reception, I thanked them for coming to that as well.

Honestly, we put our money in a savings account as well, but we are buying new dishes and things so... it's technically true. I think people like to feel like they contributed to something.

I said "thank you for the generous gift. We will remember you fondly as we use this cash to fund our eventual world domination"

Lol Janeen! I would suggest something along the lines of what Maltese suggested. I also ended with a sentence about the next time I would see them. Something personalized to them along the lines of "looking forward to seeing you again at the holidays" or "we can't wait to celebrate with you at your wedding next" (all of our friends are getting married this summer) or "we hope to be able to visit you in blank soon", etc.

Most people will get what I'm saying since I said "when you eventually do take over the world, I will be the pinky to your brain" in our vows. But if they don't....maybe they'll think a little harder the next time they forget to give me a christmas card.

Ours were something like " Thank your for the generous cash/gift card. We plan to put it towards a new home/items for a new home in the future. Thanks for coming and sharing our day!

    Matlese and Janeen nailed it.

I also like the idea of making the thank you note more personal and was thinking of doing it on fun stationary not wedding related.
