Thank You Postcards…. Tacky?

Private User, on July 3, 2014 at 3:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

Hello All,

I will be designing my own wedding stationary. To make the wedding suite more cost effective I am considering creating a thank you postcards as opposed to the tradition al greeting card.

The front of the postcard would have "Thank you" written out in nice typography. The back of the postcard would be blank so that I will be able to handwrite notes to guests.

I know this is less traditional - but I'm hoping that by including a handwritten note this would still make them acceptable.

Thoughts?

My brother and SIL did a postcard--the front had a wedding picture and 'thank you'; they wrote their notes on the back. My mom framed hers.

That sounds fine to me and will save on postage! And save the trees. Heck, I'm still hoping for even a thank you by email or facebook message from my cousin's son who got married last August and never sent a thank you for his wedding gift.

I really like this idea and might steal it. Our save the dates were postcards too.

Why not? You are sending them a thank you - that's what matters. Smiley laugh

I think as long as there's a personal, handwritten note it's fine!

Agree with Stephanie. As long as you are writing a personal note on it, it should be okay.

I'm glad this came up. I was thinking about making thank you cards with a photo of one of the sites we will visit in Ireland on our HM. How cool would it be to send each person a thank you post card from our HM. Smiley smile loving this idea!

We were thinking of doing pictures at the local botanical gardens at making them into thank you cards. I like postcard idea even better.

I think it's a great idea too. The consensus seems to be that the most important element is the hand-written note.

My only worry would be it has been my experience postcards get lost in the mail more often.

Put a return address on the p/c so it can be returned to you if it is undeliverable for any reason.

We did Thank You postcards with our picture on one side that said 'Thank You' and our wedding date. On the other side was blank and we wrote a personalized note thanking them for their gift and/or contribution to our wedding. We put them in regular envelopes and mailed them that way.

I like the idea! I always thought it was the handwritten note that was sent and the time and thought that went into letting your guest know that their presence and gift meant a lot to you on your special day.
