Thank you’s

Brittnee, on July 22, 2020 at 1:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
We’re getting married on 10/10/2020. I have a bridal shower on 8/22. I have already started to receive gifts in the mail off our registry. I had planned on having bridal shower guests address an envelope so I could send out thank you’s after the shower. I’m just not sure if I should go ahead and send out thank you notes to those who have already sent gifts, wait until after the shower or wait until after the wedding???

You should send a thank you ASAP after receiving a gift.

Thank you! I was thinking the same but wasn’t sure how it worked since the shower is right around the corner.

The standard is to send a Thank you within 2-3 weeks after receiving the gift.

You should send out thank you cards immediately after you receive any gift.

Send them out asap - and I wouldn't have guests address an envelope. That would be kind of off-putting to me, to put all of the effort and $ into getting a gift and then having to address my own thank-you note.

Typically, you don't bring the gifts to the shower to open in front of them. Because of this, it's assumed you opened it when you got it, so then you'd send the thank you right away. Hope that makes sense!

I commend you for having already written the thank you notes. We sent thank you notes ASAP to anyone who wasn't invited to the shower, but my shower was a drive-through + Zoom, so a lot of people mailed had their gifts delivered (to my parents house because they have more space/reliable package delivery than we do). I'm still working on the rest of the notes, because I waited until after the shower to write the rest of those thank yous. We'll keep writing the rest of the notes for wedding gifts as they come in. I've addressed envelopes to myself at bridal showers before, so I don't think it's weird/bad. If someone comes who you've already written a note to, you can always use it for the thank you note you send after the wedding.
