If you don't have a venue yet, now is definitely the time to be looking! Many venues book 12-18 months out, and with so many COVID weddings being pushed to next year, some are already completely booked for 2021. If you haven't already worked up a preliminary guest list and budget, I would start there. That will let you know what size venue you need and your price range, and you can start researching and reaching out to vendors to inquire about availability.

Some vendors require that you book them a year ahead. Especially with so many people rescheduling due to the pandemic. You do what works for you and don't worry about other opinions. Everyone views planning from a different perspective. Plus the forums are helpful to discuss anything that those in your everyday life aren't that interested in.

A year out is definitely not too soon to be booking a venue! Especially since 2021 now has pretty much double the weddings booked as usual. Normally one year is when people are full force wedding planning

If you’ve been doing too much and don’t even have a venue yet then I don’t want to know what they would think of me....I have my venue, DJ, photographer, makeup artist and hairstylist already booked and I have my dress and I’m getting married November of next year. If you don’t have a venue, you need to start looking! Covid has made things even more difficult because 2020 brides had to postpone until 2021 plus the people already looking for 2021, so there’s a lot of people looking. Dresses are taking longer to come in than normal because their warehouses are backed up from being closed due to the virus. I think if anything you should be doing all you can to get things in order for next year!

It's not too early to plan! We got engaged in February and had our ceremony venue, reception venue, and photographer booked by the end of March. Now we have a DJ, hotel block, and are working on addressing STDs. Like others have said, with many people rescheduling weddings to 2021, I would start looking now. I thought it was too early to look for dresses and go cake tasting but in reality it's not since some places book up to 18 months out. We're going cake tasting next weekend and dress shopping the first weekend of September.

It's your wedding, so don't let others tell you how to plan it. Do what you feel is best!

I think looking for a venue and getting a date down, looking for a dress, looking at themes/colors/ however you envision it planning right now is a good time!! You don't want to be rushing at the end and cause more stress. I have been planning for almost two years and people told me I am way ahead of myself. So don't worry about it!! If you feel like you should then you should just don't stress about it though!! I will say this and I am sorry if this sounds mean, people will not care as much as you do for your wedding. It's unfortunate and I wish people did. That does not mean you shouldn't plan and prepare and make sure what you want is what you want. There is a checklist on this website that I use daily because it helps me figure out when I need to do certain things by and when I should start thinking of things. I hope this helps and we are all here for you and your big day!!

I don't know how they think you are doing too much if you don't have a venue. A venue is the very first thing you should book especially because venues are booking extremely fast due to weddings having to be postponed until next year.

Your wedding is a year away, don't stress.

I'd really first focus on your guest list / budget - these go hand in hand. Your venue is equally important especially if you would like to get married on a certain day, if you're not picky and it's all about the venue then your date may change all together as well as your budget.

When planning a wedding for F&B, I consider the following; open bar is about $20 - $30 pp, meals plated upwards of $50 - $75.... so a nice balance is to estimate $75pp for open bar / buffet, also take into account tax and service fees so now you're looking at about $100pp... I ALWAYS budget high...

Once you've figured that part out (that's where the brunt of your money will go)... In my opinion the rest falls into place.

Awh I feel you, I am getting married in June with my venue, photos, band, and caterer already booked, when I ask my mom a question or for advice she says its a year away! (but its down to 10 months now, and every month counts!) we are just excited and want people to be excited for us! I am glad i got my venue when i did, because every weekend next year is already booked!

    good luck Smiley heart
