The 1st Time He Said "I Love You"

Ok this question made me blush, not even real sure how much of this story I should/need to share.... Ahhh we are all adults (well most of us anyway). Was right after some adult type of fun and he's just looking at me, I almost wondered if I had something in my nose by the way he was looking at me, anyway he just stayed like that for a few minutes and he finally busted out with I love you. No, I didn't say it back right away. As a matter of fact all I said was thank you. Probably not what he wanted to hear, but I wanted to mean it when I said it not just repeat it because I thought I should.

The 1st time DH said "I love you" was actually on the phone! We started dating when we were just 17, still in high school, we grew up together. He left a message on my phone saying "I know we're not supposed to say this yet because we've only been together for a month and we're still really young, but...I love you! I really do, I want to grow old with you!" and hung up. I remember I was in my old room at my mum's working on a project for school, and I sunk to my knees when I heard it. Still today I can't even explain the nervous, excited, and wonderful feeling I felt. I called him back and told him I loved him too...and well the rest is history.

Lol. We were text arguing and when I walked in the door he said stop arguing with me I love you. It was hilarious because we both wanted to say it for a couple weeks and didn't know how. (we discussed it after). I also said it a few minutes after the initial shock wore off.

I remember the first time I heard him speak it. We met online and didn't want to say it over the phone so when I flew out to MO to meet him for the first time I was so excited. He waited until we were back at the house to tell me. I remember wanting to explode with happiness!

The night he proposed I'd had some not so great experiences with past relationships and asked that he never say anything he didn't mean. He told me that he never would. His actions showed it. His affection confirmed it. But it was when he was on his knee with tears in his eyes that he first told me he loved me and I will remember that day for the rest of my life

Aw ladies these are such sweet, funny, and wonderful stories! It's funny how we all were dying to say it but held back for so long!

We were outside in the garage listening to music, and just hanging out! For awhile (a month or so) he had always kept joking with me and saying "you know you love me, just say it" my response was always.."yeah right!" "whatever!"

This time (after he once again said it) I said back to him "you know YOU love me, you just say it!" He says " I love you!" It took my breath away! I of course said it back!

Oh wow um I will try to remember as best I can.......

I know when we started dating, we both really really liked each other alot but I had just come out of an abusive relationship and we were trying to take things very slow...

I was happy about this too. The one thing I was really grateful about with Fh was that we didn't feel we needed to rush anything. It was just so "easy" with him which I really liked.

I think the first time he actually said it me was on the phone and I remember hearing it for the first time made me feel super nervous and a little freaked out for a moment. I did not say it back, and he understood...I told him I needed that moment where I just said it and I knew it was the right moment.....He understood, and a day or two later I blurted it out. We just had a "Moment" that was really special and when i looked at him, i knew I felt it, so I said it.

But I always just loved how natural it was between us, and the fact that I never felt "rushed" to feel it.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who didn't say it back right away!!! Was kinda thinking I may be the odd one. It only took me a couple of days after he said it to finally say it myself. Guess I needed to let it sink in. lol

The first time he said it we were in bed, snuggling, watching Mickey Blue Eyes. I told him I loved him (not for the first time) and he said I love you too! I was so happy!

My story was not so cute, it was while we were having a fight, and I was drunk and just kind of angrily yelled it at him. Not my finest moment.

We were best friends for years and already told each other 'I love you'. But..I guess we kind of do have a story. We went to a youth camp (we were leaders) and we had to seperate after a certain time. We could not hold each other, kiss, etc. because we were not married. So, I wrote him a note simply saying ' I am IN love with you'. The next day during morning service he gave me a letter (an actual letter) about how in love he was with me. He later told me how happy he was when he first read my 'I'm in love with you' letter. Awww.

I totally remember it! He was traveling again for work and I woke up to a text message telling me that I was going to be getting some special surprises throughout the day...first he had lunch delivered to me at work, then he sent me a video message and then I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a special note on it...and at the very end of the note he said I'm luck b/c I love you (I still have this note!) I got all giddy and ran out to call him which is when I first heard him say it to me...but the biggest surprise was that he had worked through the nights to finish his trip early and picked me up from work to actually say it to me in person. It was the most amazing day I had ever had!

Spain, the day we met actually, he asked me if I knew what "te quiero" meant, and we were saying it in English and Spanishit was so cute! then later on another visit he said "te amo" which is more meaningful, they specify that different phrase for romantic couples. :-)

We had been dating for a few months and spent virtually every day together....I went away for a week to visit family out of town and on the phone he asked that we not take another vacation without each other and his mother told me he had been miserable the whole week! Well I got home and went over to hang out with him...went to dinner..some adult activity (lol) and he told me he loved me....i had told him beofre and he told me back but later admitted that that week was when he absolutely knew for sure that he was in love with me :-)

It was the night he proposed. I had promised myself I would never say it first, not after saying it to a guy I dated when I was 17 just to hear him say he didn't love me. I knew DH loved me and he knew my feelings on saying it first. So it almost became a joke because we both knew the other one was holding out. When he finally said it after he proposed my first response was "you better!" .. lol

I remember the first time i said it to him.. and we were just talking about this last night.. we had only been dating for about a month and half and he went home for xmas and I stayed at school. one night I thought he was asleep and i said I think i love you and then hung up.. the next day he asked me what i had said.. and i played it off what do you mean.. then 2 days later he came back to school and it was Dec 31 and we found out later we both were waiting until midnight.. but i broke down and around 930 told him i loved him and of course he said it back.

@Cydney- that's so sweet! And so awesome that you still have the note! I'm glad I'm not the only sentimental one, I still have the piece of paper he gave me his number on the first time we met. It's in our scrapbook

Oh yea.. except, the first time he told me, we WEREN'T dating! He didn't even technically ask me out, but the night he first said "I love you" was back in July 2007. We were really good friends and usually were together almost every night and going to parties. This particular night, we were each at different parties. I thought he was supposed to show up but after a while I called him to see where he was and why he wasn't coming. He was actually at a birthday party just a few miles away and said I should come to him instead.. funny thing is, before I took off, I turned to a mutual friend and said "I don't know why, but I get the feeling that Denna likes me..". We talked about it just for a second and I concluded that I was crazy, we were just good friends.

When I got there, everything was normal. I grabbed a drink and hung at, as usual.. but Denna said we should go outside. I assumed he just wanted to smoke.. so there we were.. sitting outside on a warm, breezy summer night and Denna
