Do you remember back when you and FH/DH first started dating, the first time he said those magic three little words? I had completely forgotten about this special little moment until my mum called me last night to tell me her new bf had just said it for the first time. She was as giddy as a schoolgirl and so excited, it made me remember how special it was when DH said it to me for the first time, six years ago. So do you remember the first time he said it? Where were you, what were you doing, and did you say it back?

Was acting uber shy. I don't quite recall how it happened exactly, I just know that out of no where he says "Jen... I love you. I've loved you for a very long time, since the first day I saw you.. I thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world...". He then went on to explain why he had never acted upon his feelings and my mind just started racing! I know I had suspected he liked me but it had completely shocked me that he said he had LOVED me!

Ladies, I turned him down that night. I was really scared of what it would do to our friendship and I hadn't had those feelings for him to that degree, I had only JUST started recognizing my feelings for him and I was going through a rough time.. But we remained really good friends and continued to friend date for the months passing, and 6 months later, I finally returned the words and we've loved eachother since.

I will never forget the first time FH said it to me. I was so ready to say it, but I didn't want to freak him out, so I waited. After three months of dating, we were out for his birthday. We were sitting at a little irish pub, listening to the band play, and he leaned over and said in my ear "Would it be too much to say I love you?". I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. I shook my head and said I love you too. The best part was afterwards we started hugging and kissing and he didn't even get embarassed. He's not a PDA type of guy. We were so in our own little world that he didn't care and neither did I! It was perfect.

The first time he told me he loved me we were in 10th grade. He snuck out, came to my house and we walked back to his. we were in his room watching tv and his mom heard us laughing and so she came in and kicked me out. About 5min after I got home, his mom felt so bad for making me walk home alone at 2am that she made him call me to make sure I got home ok. So he called and we talked for a few minutes and he was all nervous sounding and stuttering and he said "so I wanted to uh tell you before my mom kicked you out... but uh I love You." and then hung up before I could even respond. So I called him back and left him a voicemail telling him I loved him too (: the next day at school was the first time we said it face to face though.

Awe this post makes me smile and fell all warm inside. I technically texted it first....

We were texting back and forth I sent a msg that said I l _ _ e you. He typed like? I said try again... He responded you love me? I didn't respond immediately. He called me and said I love you more than you know. From then on there's not a day that goes by I don't hear those words from him.

Oh Clare...you have NO idea how sentimental I get!!! I hold onto EVERYTHING!!! LOL ... DH gets on my case for it. I'm trying to find ways to properly hold onto the keepsakes in a way he won't consider as clutter! Smiley smile For the longest time the note sat in my car so I could read it when I had a bad day at work.

I would have totally saved the message had I been in your shoes!! Was it on one of the voicemessage recorders with tapes??

Haha I definitely remember ... my FH was at a party in college and I was at home going to bed.. I called him to say goodnight and he was little bit tipsy. For weeks we had been saying " I l-u-v you" or "I heart you" but not "I love you". He took the opportunity when he had some beer muscles to tell me that he didn't care about the stupid "I l-u-v shit anymore because I love you!!" haha kinda corny!

He was on a fishing trip over this past summer with friends... I get a text in the wee hours of the morning that said, he knows it's late, but the men he was fishing with were talking about their wives, and he realized right there and then, he was in love with me... I think they were drinking, LOL But needless to say when he got back, he said "I love you" face to face... Maybe he wasn't that drunk after all.. ;o)

Well, the first time we hung out together was because my friend at the time ditched me and DH offered to watch a movie with me. We ended up talking all night and eventually kissing. I fell asleep in his arms, I had never fallen asleep in someone's arms before, so I knew it was special, but I was afraid to get hurt again (I had just been dumped). We spent the next day together (DH later admitted that when we had lunch that day, he realized he loved me but was too afraid to scare me away)and he spent that night at my house, again just talking, kissing, then sleeping. We felt complete together. When we slept snuggled up, we fit perfect. After repeating this schedule/ritual for about a week he told me he had to tell me something, but he didn’t want to freak me out, but he wanted me to know he was in love with me. I told him I thought I loved him too but was too scared to say it just yet. I caved in a few days later.

@ Clare and Cydney, We both save things all the time. My dad caught Kevin asleep in my bed one night (I was still living at home) and my dad left a note on my door saying "Kevin, you are no longer welcome in my home or on my property". Kevin kept it. After we moved in together my dad was over it and loved Kevin, told him "I'll give you $50 if you marry her", lol. At our reception Kevin handed my dad the infamous note and we laughed... then Kevin asked for $50 : )

I was leaving his house one night & he while we were in his driveway kissing & saying goodbye, he snuck in 'I love you.' I was so thrilled & I definitely felt the same way [at this point we had been dating for like 5 or so months haha], but I wanted to say it back when he knew it was on my own terms & not just because I felt obligated. About two weeks later, same scenario, I'm leaving his house, but this time I said 'I love you' & he replied with 'I love you too'. The rest is history & not one day goes by that we don't exchange I love you's :]

A few months into dating I took him to a famous landmark here in WI. It is a Catholic Church way up on the hills where you can see for miles and miles. And while neither of us are Catholic the architecture and views are magnificent--and you just feel 'closer' to God.

Anywho, we were on one of the balconies looking out into the hills and he took my hand and kissed it. I thought he was being funny, but this is not the kind of place to be like that so I basically just smiled and ignored him... So he grabbed my head in his hands so I was facing him and just said it.

I replied back, 'I know how you feel...' and days later said it myself.

When FH and I met I was getting over a very bad relationship so we pretty much took things at my pace. I told him first. We were sitting waiting for the midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland and I just turned to him and said " I love you" he looked like he was going to fall out of his chair LOL. He said I have been wanting to tell you for like a month I love you too. It was so sweet.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was 6 years ago on our first time celebrating our first Christmas together. I now it was really short but I literally was falling very easily for him. We were in his room watching a movie and we were drinking corona well one thing lead to another like adults we are. We were making love and I just told him am feeling something strong for him but don't want to scared him and say it fast. He then said I know exactly how you feel. I am falling in love with you. I love you. I just looked at him and said it back and we kissed.

    These are all so sweet!

@Cydney- no it was on my old cellphone..which disappeared years ago boo Smiley sad

@Holly- that is such an awesome story about the note from your dad! Even better that he brought it out on the wedding! I have a similar note- from when we used to pass notes in school that says "well my mum grounded me from seeing you but I'm still gonna sneak over to your house tonight". We put it on display at the wedding-everyone thought it was hilarious that my mum grounded me from seeing my future husband!

What a great post! These are great stories too. Thanks for sharing them.

Frank was the first to say, "I love you." Lord knows with my defenses it would never come out of my mouth first. We had been together for 6 weeks and it was time to make love for the first time(When you are our age, there is no judgment on when is the right time, it is when you feel it is the right time.) He told me while we were making love and I said it back and we both wept. Hell, I even remember the date.

For the record, it would have happened a week sooner, but my bedroom needed a major cleaning. I had those poofy valances and they were seriously dusty. I hadn't had the time to clean it, so I had to take care of that first. Years later, when I told Frank why we had to wait, he always tells me my poofy valances were the last thing he would have noticed. Smiley smile

Cydney....I have the cork skrew from the bottle of wine we drank that night.

Ok my story is not so sweet lol. I am divorced and was hardcore dating for over a year trying to find Mr.Right. I went through a lot of jerks, made some friends and gave up. When I met him I was not looking for a relationship because I felt totally shut off inside. He knew I was also seeing other guys.

About a month into us dating, I had a "sort-of-old-flame" come into town to visit me. He knew about it and drank all weekend to try to forget about me. When I finally saw him again a day after my friend left, he confessed that it drove him insane and that I was killing him. He loved me and didn't care if I said it back. I was shocked because I had no idea, and I cared about him...but I wasn't at love yet. He cried =(. I remember telling my mother I was going to break that poor guys heart...but he opened my heart in so many ways. He taught me to trust again and what love really is. We looked at rings 3 months later! He is the only guy to ever truly love me.

Clare...Thanks. I got rid of those darn valances. They were leftover from the ex and so freaking Laura Ashley/ Martha Stewart.

The cork....Frank just walked by and is officially pissed off at me. The empty bottle is in the bedroom too. I have a wedding momento in front of it. It is a bottle of Alto Adige Pinot Grigio 2005, from Santa Margherita. I probably even typed that incorrectly. He is the sommelier in the family. I am just the drunk. : )

We had been dating about 3 months (we were friends for 2+ years before we started dating, so it's not that fast). We were laying in bed in his apartment. He woke up, made me breakfast, then woke me up to give it to me. He got kind of overcome with emotion, kissed me on the forehead and told me that I would probably never understand just how much he loved me... He hasn't gone more than about 6 hours without saying it.

The first time FH told me he loved me we were about 3 weeks into our relationship lol. He was just about to take me home & he hugged me and said "I love you". But like someone else said, I didn't say it back. When we started dating I had just gotten out of an incredibly crappy relationship. I wasn't about to start another one and build my hopes up that this guy would be different than the last. I really just wanted to be 21 and have a little fun (as much as I could being a single parent). So I didn't say it back. In fact, I think we were together a few months before I said it back, but he kept saying it. Smiley smile Not once expecting me to say it back, he just said it because that's how he felt.
