The Bar Method Studio/Wedding workouts

Wedding Belles, on August 18, 2015 at 11:16 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 30

I recently signed up for some barre classes to tone up and whatnot for the wedding. I know this specific studio is nationwide, has anyone been there (or to a comparable studio) before? Also, what's your favorite way to work out? I have a gym membership at Planet Fitness, but I definitely enjoy classes more! I don't know why, but I totally do! I guess it doesn't feel like work? lol

I like classes too. I get so bored working out on my own in the gym. It's also harder to give up in a class where people can judge you.

I love Barre its a great workout and really tones. i went to a local place near me where she has Pound, Piyo, and Barre yoga.

eta: i hired a trainer to drop weight and haven't had much time to get to barre but i am hoping that after the wedding i will start going again.

It is SO boring when I'm just on the treadmill alone. I used to run outside but we're having one hell of a summer and it's too hot. I'd pass out somewhere. lol And oh gosh, yes! I will do anything but tap out in a class! You won't get on FB talking about me after this workout. lol

@surfergirl How did you like the Piyo? I've heard of it, but never tried it.

I like classes too. My gym has a class called BootyBarre (which I'm going to tonight after work, yay!) and it's my favorite class of the week. I think the barre exercises are a great workout. My teacher is definitely a ballerina and I wish I could move like her. She's so graceful.

I absolutely love Barre classes! It's a whole body workout. It's fun! It's also nice to have the barre for stability because I am clumsy.

If anyone is in central CT, Defined Body Pilates is where I go and it's great!

I am a member of Bar Method. I love it! It is challenging and the instruction is great. You will still need cardio if you are trying to lose weight. I still do cardio and weights on my own. It is excellent for tone and posture.

I took a barre class. After each class I couldn't walk for a day or so. It was killer. Smiley smile

@SarahMarie I'm expecting jelly legs. lol @Beth, I was thinking I'd still go to PF on my off days. I definitely need to get more weights in! @Lauren T, that's one of the main reasons I'm doing it! I broke my ankle a little over a year ago and still can't get comfy in my stilettos. @Jacqui76 Ooh! Is that like a part dance class, too?

I'm going to be starting barre classes in September (just locally) as a cross training activity for my belly dancing.

I would love to try Barre! There aren't any classes close to me that I'm aware of though Smiley sad

I've done PiYo! It's pretty awesome. I like that you don't need any equipment and it's not as slow-paced as some yoga classes.

Barre is awesome! Definitely gets me sore. My absolute favorite workout is rock climbing; total body workout and great for building strength. I actually love lifting weights, but not on my own. I need a workout buddy or Body Pump for weight days.

@Shellbelle yes, it's like a mix of ballet, yoga and pilates. She says that some of the things we do are different than Pure Barre, but I haven't been to a Pure Barre class so I can't say what's different. It's so much fun!!

I am a member of PF too and find I don't work out as hard as I do with a little direction. Love Barre classes- my legs hurt in areas I didn't even know could hurt.

I"m a power lifter- so I lift things. The less cardio the better. Unfortunately this is in direct conflict with my I need to train for a half marathon goal- but alas- these are things that happen.

I've never taken barre classes- I dance- and I'm familiar enough with the concept- lots of high reps- lots of burning and "pulsing"- definitely falls into the cardio side of the world.

Good luck with it- Hope you have a good time! Smiley laugh

@LadyMonk Belly dancing is awesome! How long have you been doing it?! I don't know if we have any classes in my area, but I'm going to go look! @Chantel You're so right. Anything I can do without having to carry extra stuff works for me! @FutureMrsDrF The only rock climbing place we have is allll the way on the other side of town. It looks like so much fun, though! @Jacqui76, Cool! Thanks for explaining! @Jacklyn, that's my issue, too. I just feel aimless. lol @JoRocka, how long have you been into power lifting? And how long do you have left to train for your half? I used to run 5ks, but that's a drop in the half bucket. lol

I've done barre (barre3) for years. I stopped a year ago when I got sick. It's a great work out, but my upper body doesn't respond to like anything! My legs got very toned, though, and so did my butt.
