The Bar Method Studio/Wedding workouts

I recently signed up for some barre classes to tone up and whatnot for the wedding. I know this specific studio is nationwide, has anyone been there (or to a comparable studio) before? Also, what's your favorite way to work out? I have a gym membership at Planet Fitness, but I definitely enjoy...

@ShellBelle Thanks Smiley smile I've been lifting for about 3 years. Dropped 80lbs! Had an injury (from cardio!!), had to get a full time job (losing weight is easy when all you have to do in a day is go to the gym), and gained back 60 of it Smiley sad But I don't look anything close to my starting weight because muscle holds so much better then fat. FH and I are starting to get back to it. It's something we really love doing together.

Running outside is about the only thing that doesn't feel like exercise to me. When it's too hot, I just run after the sun goes down. You'll be surprised how much your endurance can increase and how much longer and faster you can run each time... it's very motivational.

I much prefer classes to just working out - I'm sooo bad at just working out on my own. I half-ass it and don't push myself. I feel lost. Classes are much better for me! My main focus is yoga, including hot yoga, but I'm interested in barre! My previous gym, that I've put on hold, had a barre class but I really didn't enjoy it. My new yoga studio teaches barre and I've heard it's excellent, so I'm excited to try it and tone up a bit!

@SwoleMates2016 Yeah, I sit at work, too. It's so hard not to gain when you are expected to be glued to a chair all day. And hey, that's still a 20 lb loss! I'm trying to get there! lol @Michelle I love running outside, but I don't want to run alone after the sun goes down. Too many episodes of Criminal Minds. @Lauren, I tried it once before and practically crawled out of the studio. Hopefully this is different. lol @thefunbean I've always been afraid to take those because I'm so blasted sensitive to heat. It gives me horrible headaches. Have you had anything like that happen in those?

@ShellBelle Only when I don't properly hydrate beforehand. I've passed on attending certain classes if I knew I wasn't hydrated enough for it. And you have to definitely hydrate properly after! But as long as I hydrate, I don't notice any headaches or ill-effects.

In my opinion barre does nothing but tone. If that's all you are looking at then that's great. Piyo is the same. I am currently doing P90x which is good for toning and losing weight because it has cardio as well as weight.

I have done barre classes at PureBarre and Barre3, they're super fun! And yes, expect to be sore everywhere afterwards...

It definitely helps toning. I agree with @OriginalLaura that the weight loss wasn't as noticeable. It may depend on the person. I find that watching what I eat is much more effective if I want to shed some pounds! Exercising still feels great though, especially when you know you're getting better and stronger at what you do!

@thefunbean That's good to know. Maybe I'll give it a try. @OriginalLaura I'm looking more to work on my balance and flexibility. I broke my right ankle a little over a year ago and I'm still dealing with stiffness when I want to wear certain heels and such. But the toning (ETA: my dress has straps, so I'm looking for arm toning, too) and any weight loss would be super awesome, too! @kiri I usually gain weight at least in the beginning of when I work out consistently and it gets discouraging a bit, but I finally figured out it's not all about the scale. Smiley smile

Well, I did it and I didn't have to crawl to the car after. It was fun! But I am exhausted. And sure to hurt later. lol
