The bigger the better? just curious...

Vivian, on September 6, 2012 at 1:31 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 37

So, I was reading some other wedding website lately and saw a post asking ladies to post their rings that amounts to more than 2 carats in weight... Now I have to admit that I love diamonds... But is it just me or does anyone else think that bigger is not always better? I have a small hands (so I have been told), so personally I feel that if the ring is too big, it just looks weird on my hand... Besides, both my fiancee and I believe that we need to leave him room for future "upgrades" Smiley smile

YES! I feel the same way. I have very small, petite hands and I think I'd look absolutely ridiculous with anything bigger than what I have. It was funny when we went to look for a band cause I tried on a HUGE, RIDICULOUS ring cause the sales lady said she thought it was funny to have people try it on because of the outrageous size. It took up the whole bottom half of my finger to my knuckle! She said people actually bought that!??? lol

I agree! I wanted something pretty and decorated rather than a huge solitaire. The middle is a cluster so I think I could change it out for a single stone if I wanted to. The total weight I think is around 1ct but it is a cluster, with two small diamons on the sides of the cluster, and then tiny ones all over the band with filigree on the edges. I love it and it didn't break the bank.

My fiance gave me a 4 carat ring when he proposed to me. It was outrageous and not at all what I wanted, so he returned it and we picked out something together that suits me much more, just over 1 carat. Couldn't even see my finger with 4 carats on...so tacky.

Agreed! I tried on a 1 carat even.. and didn't like it! I am a simple type of girl and didn't want anything to big! It just looks awkward and impedes my everyday tasks!

I have a 1/3 of a carat and love it... I cant wear my ring at work so having a huge ring would be a waste... We did pick out my band together though.. yay...

I feel the same way - I too have small hands and didn't want a ring that looked garish on my hand though those with larger hands can easily pull off a ring of 2 carats or more. So, FH decided that instead he would get me the best clarity, cut and color and he knew I wanted a substantial amount of gold. And he got it just right! I couldn't love my ring more.

So, when he proposed, he did it with a .5 carat, which was slightly smaller than what we looked at first (we looked at a little closer to .75). But it really didn't matter as it came from him, and I so much rather he save the money towards our eventual house anyway... So, when we looked at wedding bands, we decided on a wrap and an anniversary band together that makes the wedding set... All 3 rings together makes 1 carat... Most importantly, I love them together!

I'm all about the story behind the ring not the ring its self.

I'm not a big fan of chunky jewelry in general, so I agree. I could've had a huge ring. The saleslady stuck a bunch on my finger(went up to my knuckle), but they were too flashy and did not feel right to me. I have simple taste, and don't like a lot of attention. Plus I lose rings like nobody's business, so a huge expensive diamond scared me.

My center stone is 1 ct. with the halo and diamonds on the band of the e ring and I have two slim bands that match the band of my e ring and total it all comes to just over 2.5. I too have small hands and wear a size 4.5, that's why we opted for slender bands with diamonds. Our $ was spent on the quality of diamond and not so much the ct weight. Quality over quantity always Smiley smile

Some of the other C's were more important to me. I'm also always for quality over quantity.

The ring we chose has a really beautiful and intricate design, which was more awesome to us than a large diamond. We went with a .6 carat I believe.

I didn't want anything that looked way too big for my finger. Mine is 1 carat total but it's a 3-stone ring so it doesn't look as big as it is. And I love it!

My e-ring is .5 carat and I love it. FH read up on, and studied diamonds and how to get the best/flawless diamond. He designed the setting for my ring too, so I love it. He put a lot of time into it, and I really appreciate that. My wedding band is a cradle band that has diamonds on both sides (so pretty!), and that is another .75 carats. I didn't want anything too big or chuncky looking. Can't wait to slip that other ring on my finger! Smiley smile

I totally agree! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate beautiful rings of all shapes and sizes when they're on other people, but I don't really wear jewelry. I thought I wanted a bigger ring, but the 1+ carat rings I tried on looked super weird on my hand. We ended up going with a .5ish carat in the center and lots of little pave diamonds around the edges.

I HATE big diamonds, I wear a 4.5 ring size, my hands are too small I have a 3/4 carat and it looks big. I didn't want anything too big that'll get stuck on things, and I wanted a large band because I've squished a few rings on my fingers ( I work with my hands a lot and in rough on them) so I wanted one I couldn't ruin.

Mine With all diamonds has a 1.25 carats of diamond and a half carat of sapphire. But my band is covered with diamonds

Oh and I tried to get him to do a smaller diamond in the center but he refused and said even though it was more than the price he was going to spend we both fell in love with it with that diamond and I'm stuck with it for the rest of my life so that's the diamond we get. The c's were much more important, my diamond has an amazing sparkle, I can tell the difference, I never could before, between a cheaper diamond and mine.

I'm glad he told me I couldn't change my mind Smiley smile

When we were looking for my wedding band I tried on a 2ct solitaire for fun, it looked like i had a dinner table on my finger. The lady working said when you have smaller hands and wear a big diamond it makes it look fake anyway, just because the proportion looks off.

You think you have small hands my ring is a size 3.5!!! anything big would look terrible on me. I'm with Mrs. S that I think the other C's are more important. My stone is 1.87 and the stones on the band make the total a little over 2 but he went weith a really good quality diamond which is what i would want anyway
