So, I was reading some other wedding website lately and saw a post asking ladies to post their rings that amounts to more than 2 carats in weight... Now I have to admit that I love diamonds... So, I was reading some other wedding website lately and saw a post asking ladies to post their rings that amounts to more than 2 carats in weight... Now I have to admit that I love diamonds... But is it just me or does anyone else think that bigger is not always better? I have a small hands (so I have been told), so personally I feel that if the ring is too big, it just looks weird on my hand... Besides, both my fiancee and I believe that we need to leave him room for future "upgrades" Smiley smile

I like engagement rings on others, but not personally a fan of the "diamond engagement ring". Its the wedding band that ultimately counts.

That said, large garish rings snag on clothes and it's not worth the worry of being robbed on the street.

I guess I'm going to be the unpopular one here. I don't have a HUGE ring at all, but I definitely wanted some size on mine. Together with the stones on the band, mine is a little over 2 carats. Some of the other c's well less important to me and it wasn't about how expensive it was but I wanted people to see it from far away and know that I was taken by an awesome guy.

I have seen some really gaudy, tacky rings/bridal sets... Bigger is definitely not always better. Then again, I'm not a fan of a lot of types of rings- solitairs, halos, etc.. We went with a 1ct three stone diamond ring and a 1/2ct band (that I haven't received yet) and I couldn't be happier. I have skinny fingers though so I didn't want something that is overbearing.

The size of the diamond doesn't matter to me so much as the size of the band.. Chunky bands don't look good on my fingers, so I have a think band (DH picked it because he knew Smiley smile

I only have a 1/2 ct diamond center stone and I couldn't tell you what the others are in weight, I really don't care.

Mine is a 3 stone ring and it's a total of 1.5 carats. I have small hands and it's the perfect size. Sparkles like crazy!

I'm glad that I'm not the only girl out there with a smaller ring. I LOVE my rings. Picked out the band myself and H did such a good job picking out the engagement ring. I have very simple tastes and, as a violinist, didn't want anything large on my hand that might get in the way. It's actually why I even wear my ring on my right hand (less annoying over there!).

I think my engagement ring is just over 1/10th and my band has smaller diamonds totaling 1/6th.

Part of what I love about my ring is that H bought it when he was moving across the country to be with me since I had gotten a new job. He bought a ring within his means and still had savings left over to help me out in the case that he was unable to get a job right away. He ended up getting a job in 2.5 weeks and felt badly that the diamond is so small, but I love it the way it is!

Is just perfect not to big and not small....I think that once a diamond gets to a certain carat that they look fake depending on the cut

I wanted one that was covered in diamonds so it would shimmer in even low light, and he got me one, that had 41 diamonds and was 1/3 ct total. I loved it, but not even two months went by and a diamond fell out, so instead of paying to have the diamond put back in, he got me an upgrade. Not to mention real diamonds scared the hell out of me because i was so scared of losing one. Which i did. So my upgrade is 1.5 carats total, it has a 1 ct center princess cut white sapphire, and eighteen small white sapphires around the center stone and on the band, and two blue sapphires. I love sapphires, plus they shine more than a diamond. I picked out this one, and im in love with it

Thank you ladies for sharing your thoughts Smiley smile I love my ring regardless of the size. The most important thing is that he bought it with me in mind. I think that the size of the ring is no indication in how much he loves me... He also knew that I like the timeless look, although it wasn't any of the ones that we looked at and told him that I like, nevertheless, it really just isn't that important to me at the end Smiley smile

I do agree with you all. If you have small hands, bigger rings do not look good to me. I have fat fingers. (Couldn't believe when I got my ring size it said 10.25.) So my ring is 2 carats and it actually look bigger in the picture than on my hand.

I think all e-rings are beautiful b/c of the meaning they carry. Big, small, whatever. I think it's crazy when people get judged either way.

I would have said yes to a blade of grass tied around my finger, or something plastic out of a cracker jack box.

I'm shocked at the tackiness of a request "hey ladies post your ring but only over 2 carats" lol. The fact that it represents a lifelong commitment and public statement of devotion seems to be a point they're missing Smiley winking

I have massive man hands lol but if FH had spent $10's of 1000's on a ring I'd have been pretty mad at him. But him wanting to spend the rest of his life with me - that's priceless Smiley smile

I don't think it matters what people like whether big or small, I also think it's rude to say big is tacky too! You like what you like.

No I didn't say big is tacky I said asking people to ONLY show rings over 2 carats was tacky - in my most humble opinion of course! People can bling themselves up as much as they like Smiley smile

My FH had me pick out my ring since i was going to be the one wearing it the rest of my life Smiley smile That being said i purposely picked out one with a small stone and a lower sitting setting! I was worried about the ring getting caught on things or scratching people! My Stepsisters ring is pretty huge and she has accidentally left scratch marks on my nephews from that thing! No thank you! my .75 carats is perfect, although the setting makes it look slightly bigger than it is Smiley smile

IMHO, I would rather have a cigar band given in love than a huge diamond given to impress.
