The feelings after laparoscopy

Aliona, on November 29, 2012 at 3:34 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 28

Is anyone here who went through such experience? i had yesterday morning laparoscopy with general anesthesia. so i was sleeping till today morning but when i woke up i kinda threw out and my heart was beating quite fast. they told me they did a blood check and i have low magnesium. tomorrow i'm going home. but what about going to the toilet? i had some food today and i feel pain in the bowel, is it normal for everyone? i asked the doctors and told me it shouldn't hurt me, i mean not the bowel.

.

Why are you asking these questions HERE? You're in a hospital -- ask the experts!

I was just wondering if there's anyone with whom i can share this, i'm in a foreign country other than mine, english is really not spoken and i don't speak polish too much. if my question bothered you, you could not answer.

I have not personally dealt with or know anyone else who might dealt with this issue ut maybe if you search the topic on the web you can find an answer. Try "should I experience discomfort in my bowel after laparoscopy procedure" or something like that.

What did you have done? Was this emergency surgery in another country? I can answer the bowel. When you are put to sleep everything goes to sleep and it is hard to wake the bowel up, water water water juice juice juice. If you can get up walking will help things get moving. If not move as much in the bed as you can.

I agree with the throat hurting part that Deb says.

I would make sure the mag is at a normal range before they let you go home, it can cause heart stuff. I had a potassium problem the last time that had to be ironed out before I was released.

I had my gallbladder removed the same way and just remember my joints aching from the gas they use to "bloat" your belly out so they can see better. It might be uncomfortable to ask, but bowel pain is something you don't want to mess around with. If it were me I'd sleep on it (hopefully) but if it persists, mention it in the morning. Good luck and I hope you feel better!

Hey everyone. I am feeling better now, i had a laparoscopy to be dignosed for the pains i've been having for 11 months. I had some liquid indeed in the douglas space but that's all they could see. Other than that my bowel looked a bit too large, like it would have gases whole the time. i was sent back to gastrologists, which before denied any connection with the bowel as i had many procedures. I would like to discuss with someone who had a similar problem, some ideas, what this could be. I didn't have the appendix removed because it looks ok and i did have my intestines checked as well before with colonoscopy and endoscopy.

MJ, yes i do have a throat pain and finally a doctor who speaks english explained me how it looks like. And like you my minerals are also dropping every time i have anesthesia. It wasn't an emergency, it was planned, i moved here because my husband is Polish. Mrs. Lemon tell me please what happened to your husband that he had to do that for the colon?

I'm a nurse, and I agree with the stool softner and the water!!!

It is really hard to wake the bowel post op. So ask for a stool softner, drink a ton of water and get up walking the halls in the hospital. The more you are up moving, the faster the bowel wakes up and gets things moving down there again!!

    I hope this helps you.

Ive had it to remove my galbladder when i was 17...i didnt have pain just discomfort. mainly in my neck/back/shoulderblade area. i was told this was just the gas dissipating into my blood stream, it went away in a few days

Hey DeAnna. I was sent home and i feel generally no pain in the place they cut, i just can't eat too much, i have appetite but my stomach and intestine hurt, i feel like i would still have gas everywhere and didn't go to the toilet yet. Trying to move more. Could this be also a reaction for the antibiotics? Doxicycline they gave me. i bought some stool softner to help me go to the toilet. i'm in the 4th day after the laparo and still feel pain in my stomach while eating. There's no fever and no pain connected with the little holes that were sewed. Thank you

Get up and walk all you can and drink water and juice. Any pain meds will make your bowel slower or stop it. They pump gas into you so they can see what they are doing. It will escape. I know when mine did I thought I was dying the pain was so bad in my neck and shoulders. It went away in a few hours just like the doctors said it would.

You will feel much better if you walk.

I had a lap for my endometriosis. Some of the pain could be from the gas that is put inside during surgery. As a few others have said... Get up and move about. That gas can settle, and caused me a bit of discomfort and pain.

I had lap for gallbladder. My suggestion if you are still having trouble having a bowel movement-prune juice. I went for two days without one, and the stress of not having one was making it harder. We even tried enemas. No luck. One glass of prune juice and I was right as rain.

Thank you all for advises, MJ i actually had a pain killer in my vein done when i woke up from anesthesia and i was throwing out like a crazy (sorry about details lol). since then i can't really eat anything cause the acidity in the stomach grows. I did went to the toilet finally with the help of Linen oil, and some probiotics. i also think the pain killer was too strong for my bowels, i'm trying to drink a lot as you all advised and to move, thank you everyone again. is strange bu i didn't feel too much pain in the shoulders but i do have a hellish pain in the throat left, it's getting better though.
