Tonight I begin a long Journey, the ultimate DYI: My dress! I’m excited and a little anxious (as I often am before a big sewing project) but I’ve procrastinated enough!
Oh, that's exciting! What a great way to get a dress with exactly what you want. Do you expect this will be more cost effective as well? Post lots of progress pics!
Wow! I can’t wait to see your dress when your done. I give you much props I haven’t seen anyone else on here doing the same. Do you have an inspirational pic?

I’ve made so many wedding dresses for other women and this point, I figure I have more than enough practice. It’s funny because for a long time I said I wouldn’t make my own because I’d never be satisfied and keep fussing. But once I was actually engaged I realized I wanted full control and probably wouldn’t be able to relax knowing someone else was making it.

I don’t have any pictures of what the finished product will actually like; however, these are my favorites from the inspiration board.

Omg! (1) I'm already impressed by your sewing skills, mine fall apart just thinking about attempting a dress that intense (2) I LOVE your inspo pics (3) are you bringing that 1800s vibe into the rest of your decor?

It will be very cost effective, as there will be no added labor costs. Compared to other custom designs it will certainly come in at a fraction of the price. My estimate, when all is said and done is $300-400, which i know some girls spend that in just alterations and bustling! I’ve bought most of the materials and I’m currently way under budget!

Yes, the whole wedding is traditional Irish themed. Our cathedral was built in 1857 and has gorgeous woodwork and stained glass. The reception will also be at a pub built and decorated in late 1800s style.
