The Knot created a website for me

Fiona, on December 10, 2015 at 11:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 35

Um. wtf?

I googled my name and my fiance's name, and discovered that the Knot got my info from Target and created a website with a registry on it that we didn't even use. I've seen it happen with Bed, Bath, and Beyond too.

I emailed ****@*******.*** and basically told them how creepy it is to auto create a website for someone.

Yeah they do that. they also auto-create registries if you have a website. our wedding website is through theknot and we have a macy's registry floating around with one thing on it (that we didn't create or add). I had to disable viewing the Macy's thing to keep it from showing up on my wedding website.

Yea I noticed that with my registries, I think since those are public they must just have a query that takes all of them from the different websites.

Just Google myself and fh...same thing. There's a knot website that I never created with my Macy's and Amazon registries. Creepy.

Oh, will have to google myself later and see what shows up. I actually created three websites before deciding on the WW one to publish.

Yeah, they did that to me as well. Not a fan, but when you sign up for your registries, there's a tiny disclaimer that you're allowing them to share your registry info with their "partners." I'm assuming one of those partners in The Knot.

I just looked at us too, and it did the same thing. I have a "wedding website" over there too, but there's nothing on it...I signed up over there before I found WW, so I never finished.. lol

Yasminadlv It creeped me out because I've never gone near their site before. Avoided it like the plague. Ugh. Now we wait to hear back from their help team.

Whoa I have one over there and it includes our last names. Our website doesn't even have that. Not cool.

I googled it, and they haven't auto-created anything for us... looks like keeping registries unlisted and WW sites password-protected actually does do some good.

Do you have an account with them?

Because I don't know if I do or not and now I'm paranoid haha. Either way, so not okay.

That happened to me too. I found it by googling myself. I think it auto-generates with public registries. I am not a fan but I didn't ask them to take it down. I'd be interested to know what happens with tech support.

My registries are unlisted and private and STILL show up on that website. Not okay

Most registries include the following disclaimer: "You are allowing others to access to your registry at crateandbarrel.com and other partner sites." This allows them to share your info with whoever.

Yeah ours were same as tjacob, they weren't listed. It looks like they auto linked through Macy's and JC Penny though.

Edit: Ah MayBride that makes sense.
