The Knot... Just... wow....

KeitaiKT, on February 1, 2015 at 5:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

I know this has come up many times, but I can't help myself from commenting. I was shocked at how rigid ideas on etiquette were on the Knot forum. Any ceremony/reception after a legal courthouse wedding was a "pretty princess day", matching bridesmaid gifts and robes were a capital offense, no exceptions on invitation timeline, anyone who disagreed got shouted down and memed FAST. Wowza. Things get heated on here but at least most of us are willing to see both sides of the argument. Thanks for being you, wedding wire!

Most of the bitchy women on there got married like ten years ago.

Yeah... I noticed a lot of past tense in the comments. You'd think people would eventually phase out to other things that far out from their wedding....

Also, one thing I saw that got me irritated: There was a STICKY stating that any wedding ceremony after an official marriage was officially a "pretty princess day" or PPD for short. While I generally agree with the idea that you shouldn't mislead guests about whether you got legally married before the wedding ceremony, I would never have made such a categorical declaration about a 2nd wedding. The posters on that site bullied some girl out of keeping a reception she had already planned because she wanted to do a quick courthouse wedding to allow her dad dying of pancreatic cancer to attend. I mean, come on!

I've never actually been to the knot before now. I am exhausted just trying to navigate their website! So confusing! How do you even find the drama filled posts to begin with?

Elle, if you dare, there is a tab on the upper right titled "community". Once you click on that you can find a bunch of different forum groups to check out.

I'm on the Knot, but I never actually on there. Their layout sucks and I'd rather focus on one wedding forum than 2. I hear a lot of stories about those girls though....

I went and looked. Wow. Glad I don't spend any time on there. Not very helpful at all.

I started on the knot, then left because they wouldn't let me do anything Canada-centered! And oh boy are those ladies ready for a fight! I know there's a lot of strongly opinionated women on here, but Weddingwire forums are SO much nicer and welcoming than the knot LOL!

I joined knot when i first got engaged, but didn't like the layout much, plus someone told me that they sell your information (I wouldn't be surprised if WW did the same.)., havent' spent much time on the knot forums.

I got married in my fathers hospital room days before he passed. I have NO regrets about it and some stranger on a website telling me March is my PPD would be told to F OFF! Seriously people for something like a dying parent if you are so far out of touch with reality and that self absorbed you need to be bitch slapped!

I can't stand TK forums, I like the variety of pictures though elsewhere on the site. I only go on TK when I can't find ideas on here or pinterest

Oh the nonsense exists here too from time to time but The Knot is a very special type of "nonsense". LOL! I am on The Knot. I post regularly on two boards and intermittently on a third. The boards that I am on are "friendly" and I have had no problem. The other boards I don't touch. They are not helpful and reminds me of a bunch of 3rd graders fighting on the playground. SMH!

@Susan: Seriously, right? I couldn't believe what they were saying. She was practically apologizing to them for even considering it. I can't imagine anyone begrudging a girl who just lost her dad the chance to have a full and formal wedding ceremony and reception, just because she tried to throw something together quickly that her dad could be involved in. They were like, "yeah, you'll have to return the dress and cancel the venue," and proceeded to give advice on how to get all the airline tickets refunded. I am still at a loss...

I actually went over there and posted on the thread referred to about my experience and why I did what I did. Any stranger online who looks down upon me for doing is a heartless wench who would be told off.

I read your post - awesome job! So glad you went over there and supported her. Also, impressed you found that thread; you are a way better detective than me, who stumbled on it entirely by accident.

I've seen a lot of judgement here too.

But yeah at The Knot, they don't like to have fun. So if you ever think of suggesting what you consider to be a "fun" idea, just know they'll trash it because it's inappropriate, tasteless, trying to hard, you name it...and absolutely none of you're guests will like it either.

KeitaiKT I have zero tolerance for bullies or asshats. People can say what they think they would do, but when your facing it head on I would like to see some folks stick to what they said. Anybody can bully people on the internet. Come say that to someones face.

I agree the knot set up wasn't very user friendly & I quickly dropped it w/o even visiting the forum. Every once in a while I Google something wedding related & a similar question will pop up on their forum...
