Have not thought about this, but need to figure it out soon since my DJ paperwork is due in a week! We're having a small (45 people) afternoon wedding, so the last dance will be at 5pm.
We are playing Thank you by Led Zeppelin. My fiance wanted it as our wedding song. It is a great song, however I wanted something else... So we compromised...since he's not much of a dancer Thank you was a little more rhythmic, so I suggested... "Thank you" would require a little more movement than swaying...so it would be best played at the end of the night, where he's more relaxed, has maybe had a few more drinks, and all eyes won't be on us.
I'm walking down the isle to an instrumental version of "Keeper of the Stars" which is a really special song for FH and I, but not our first dance song. We decided to close the night with the original version of that song with words. It's a slow song but its so loving and exactly how we want to end the evening. We aren't doing a first look so we see it as "the first song we will see each other to in the church and the last song we will dance to at our wedding".
We wanted one last slow song ("Stand by Me") and then ended the night with "Take Me Home Tonight" to get everyone back out on the dance floor one last time!
Even though people think it's cliche, we did 'Don't Stop Believing.' Everyone flooded our dance floor and begged for one more song, so it was a good choice for our crowd!
We might have one more big song to close the night out, but the one that's going to usher people out will probably be "Closing Time" since it's what we play at the end of our shows when it's time for people to leave the theatre.
We haven't decided, but I'm pushing for "Livin' on a prayer" by Bon Jovi. I think it's upbeat and a great sing-a-long for older and younger people. I can just picture everyone on the dance floor singing it at the top of our lungs!
My FH and I have completely different tastes in music, but a common theme we can both agree on is 70s-90s rock. It kind of ties in with other monumental songs that we're playing on our wedding day: first dance might be Styx's "Lady" (FH proposed with that playing) and Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a place on earth" once we're married and announced as Mr. & Mrs.
We have a popular one, Don't Stop Believing by Journey! This has been a song that FH, myself, and my mom have always belted at the top of our lungs in the car together, so it'll be extra fun and exciting for the three of us
