The little extras you absolutely have to have at your wedding.

Nicoletta, on June 15, 2014 at 11:35 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 29

My FH told me to make a list of things I absolutely have to have at the wedding so we can figure out how everything can fit into our budget. From dresses to table linnens to a special type of food, what are the the little extras you absolutely have to have at your wedding?

My two splurges were the venue and the photographer. Nothing else is a must have at the wedding - seriously. The venue was a must have because I want an outdoor ceremony - but one that came with an emergency rain plan which ours has. I also wanted a great photographer to capture it all so even if something goes wrong or I miss out on something, I will still have photos of the big day.

We have seen so many of our friends stress over tablecloths, napkins, fonts, etc., we decided to not focus on those things. Just on getting married.

I have to have a candy/dessert table. I've already been collecting glassware, pie stands, and candy dishes, so now I gotta put them to good use! HAD to have videographer! I couldn't picture my wedding without having it documented on video. That was a must for me.

Good food. An absolute must. And I will definitely be one of those brides that eat. Even if I have to hide under a table from guests!!

Venue was super important to me. Also, invitations-- they set the tone of your wedding and give guests an idea about how formal (or informal) your wedding is.

A great venue with excellent food was a top priority for us.

Decor details were important to me - tons of flowers, lanterns, lots of candlelight for a romantic feel, custom stationery, upgraded linens and napkins, chivari chairs.

Live music - we had a string quartet for ceremony and cocktails hour.

Dessert - we had a crepe station with bananas flambé, in addition to 3 flavors of wedding cake and a sweets table.

Personalization - we wrote the ceremony and vows ourselves.

I also splurged on a designer gown and my husband had a custom made suit.

    Um...food, and being married! Haha.

We didn't do flowers, we aren't doing any decor (we're using an inn and they will co-ordinate with our colours), no formal tables so no linens or centrepieces to worry about.

Really, the venue was our biggest must have, then photographer, DJ and good food. I want good photos because after the day is over there really isn't much left to remember it by aside from photos - and good food, venue and DJ cause it has to be a good party!

    I was easy to please:

My only 'absolutely have to's were: wedding license, groom, officiant, and.... *dress*!

I think you're going about this in exactly the right way!

I have to have fun personalized napkins and personalized matches for our cigar bar. Definitely don't need them, but soooo want them!

Absolute must haves are license, groom, rings, dress, family and friends, venue large enough for family and friends, food and booze. Oh - and we absolutely had to get married in the church.

Little extras that I didn't have to have, but are fun...personalized water bottle labels, personalized napkins, Virginia wines on all the tables, favors, a signature drink and probably the biggest splurge - an extra suite at the hotel, just in case.

Food is where I'm most likely to splurge. I love to cook. I'd cook up the whole shebang if it were up to me, but as that's not possible, I'll be hiring a top notch caterer. Also photography and venue as the two go hand in hand and you'll have those pics forever!

Groom. Video. Guest list being just the people that mattered the most.

Photographer! A nice photographer can make a "average" wedding look like a blast, and a poor photographer can make a fabulous wedding look dingy- in my opinion. My dress is my next big thing, and then I'm wanting more fabulous desserts then food (chocolate fountain and icecream with BBQ)

Flowers. Those were super important to me. I went with silk so that I could get the colours and types of flowers I wanted without any issues.

A tiara. I want to to feel like a princess on my wedding day and I knew from the beginning that I wanted to wear a tiara. My mom found one that matches my dress perfectly.

My extras are sequin tablecloths for the cake and escort card table (I seriously cannot wait for them to get here!) and designer shoes. I also was really focused on the flowers, which for some brides isn't a huge deal.

I have to have all the people I want to be there. Less things, less cost - more room for spending on food for my friends and family.

When we got engaged FH was complaining that he would have no say in the wedding (although he has in fact been VERY involved). I asked him to come up with the necessities and his requirements were "Family, food, friends, and football". The first 3 were easy, but we had to get creative with the football. We decided to have a BBQ rehearsal where he and his friends can all play football. And we might wrap the garter around a football.
