For those of you who have already purchased your dress. How did you know it was ‘the one’? How many did you try on before finding it?

Thanks! I hope the same for you.
And yeah, my dress is from David’s Bridal, and I’m pretty sure they have a no-return/refund policy or something like that. So my plan B if I really don’t like my dress (I’ll still get alterations, because maybe that will help, and I have a good seamstress) is that I’ll just find a really pretty white dress or gown that I do like for cheap that won’t need any changes (probably something from a department store or online store)

That was my plan as well! I ordered my dress in ivory, but tried it on in Moscato (which is a light pink color) so I really hope once I get it fitted, try it on with the right hair/make up, and have it tailored, it won't look so... Bad. I don't want to say bad, but it just doesn't look right when I look at the pictures.

I've looked a lot at Lulu's and Nordstrom's online, and they both have fantastic options online for not a bad price. I might just cave as well, but I do want to give this dress a fair chance.

I am a very logistical person. I thought long and hard about what I wanted after trying on probably 20 dresses at 3 different shops. I was in love with a simple, less than $500 dress, but I looked amazing in an elegant $2,500 dress. I decided to go simple, because even though I felt "thin" in the formal expensive gown, it just logistically wouldn't work for me. Did I want to wear a big gown all day? Did I want to change out of my wedding dress into something that was not my wedding dress on my wedding day (that option makes me sad. We should want to wear our dress ALL night!). My mother insisted on paying and I really didn't want to spend $2,500 of my her money on a dress. I really pictured my entire day and how the dress would work comfort wise and financially. I hope this helps with your decision. Not everyone tries one on and get's that moment. Some of us have to think it over for weeks and make decisions from the brain and not from the heart.

Hahaha those are some stores I’ve been looking at, too! They really do have some gorgeous dresses.
I think it’s wise to give your first dress a fair chance. Alterations can be a thing a beauty haha. But I know what you mean. When I look at the pictures I have of me in my dress, I can’t believe I actually bought it. It’s not at all what I thought I wanted. And in the pictures, I look overjoyed, but I can’t remember that feeling at all when I see the pictures.

I probably tried on 12 dresses total. I tried on one from each style just to get a feel of the one I liked best and actually ended up purchasing the first dress I put on, although I had my "the one" moment once we added the accessories and I stood in front of multiple mirrors and could see completely around myself. I definitely cried at that point 💕

I tried a lot before and after finding “the one” once I couldn’t get that dress out of my mind and I kept going back to it I decided I needed to take another trip to that boutique and try it again and sure enough that was my dress! The fact u tried so many allow me to never question my decision!

Every dress I tried on before putting mine on had the same reaction of "I love it but...". There was always some detail I wanted different and the consultants always assured me that whatever detail it was, it could be changed. But i wanted a dress that I loved the way it was. Once I put on my dress and my reaction was just "I love it", I knew it was the one.

SO crazy how that happens right? Me too. I just feel like I had an outer body experience or something, I just wasn't 100% myself that day. And it doesn't help that I literally only went to one bridal salon. The girl helping me was literally too great, and she made me feel so comfortable no matter what I was in. But people gawking may not be enough to make me happy in my own skin.

I wish you all the best Smiley heart

I had seen this dress in the window of the tailor’s shop every week for a few months before we decided to plan the wedding.

I went to try it on and 1) it was 50% on sale 2) with adding a corset back it fits and 3) I did not want to take it off!!!

So... it was the first one that I tried.

I walked past my dress when we walked in the store and thought it was beautiful but had already decided I wasn’t going strapless due to a scar from collarbone surgery. 8 dresses in my sister and MOH pull a big poofy strapless ball gown and I was like oh what the heck why not for fun.. then thought ok well if this is strapless and I don’t mind it may as well try on the one I fell in love with earlier. Tried it on and I didn’t even care I had a scar. That’s how beautiful and confident I felt in it. Didn’t want to take it off, teared up, my girls teared up, then the veil sealed the deal when I envisioned walking down the aisle in it.

I tried on like 10 dresses all from David’s Bridal.. my dress is beautiful loved how it felt on me and the lace and the fact that I can move easily in it I twirled in a circle in it and the fact it left me speechless on me I knew this was the one! My sister and step mom love it too they were with me when I tried it on and my family who has seen pictures love it too.. and 500 dollars not too bad of a price even though we wanted to stay to 300 but layaway gives 60 days to pay it off and family paying for it we got it 😊❤️

For me the most important things about my dress were style, comfort, and price. I went to a bridal shop and tried on over a dozen dresses and found a few I liked quite a bit, but in the end bought my dress online from a pre-owned wedding dress website (StillWhite) and I'm so happy with it. I know because it makes me excited, whereas other dresses felt like a compromise in one way or another. With the other dresses, I always liked some features but didn't like others, or liked the dress but really felt anxiety about the price. This one is everything I wanted at a price I'm really happy with!

Buying through StillWhite, I paid like 20% of the retail cost of the dress and it suits me so well, plus with it being pre-owned (and me spending far less than I would have buying a dress new and having it altered) I feel like I will enjoy wearing it more and be less worried about stains, dog hair, and other things that will probably happen from wearing it on my wedding day. I ended up spending a lot less than I had budgeted and the dress is so much nicer than anything brand new that was actually in my price range. I could end up buying a less formal second dress or jumpsuit for my reception and still probably fall well under budget of what I had allocated. I did ask the seller a ton of questions (including all her measurements and height) and ended up buying my dress at a super discounted price (the same dress is listed on StillWhite for double what I paid, so I was pretty confident I could resell it for the same price if it didn't work for me), which gave me a bit more confidence in buying online. I also purchased my dress 8 months before my wedding which still gave me enough time to buy something else if it didn't work out.

I am really glad I went to the bridal boutique to try on dresses because it made me more aware of styles I liked and didn't like, plus the experience was a ton of fun. Then when I tried on the dress I bought online, I really felt like it was the "right one" and I didn't miss out on the experience of wedding dress shopping and I didn't settle for the one dress I had purchased sight unseen.

I'd say don't get swept up in having a crying, sobbing moment when you find "the one" because some people just aren't that way. Also definitely stick within your budget. If I had ended up buying the dress I liked the most at the bridal salon I probably would have felt a lot of guilt because it would have been double what I wanted to spend after alterations. It would have been a gorgeous dress, but I didn't need to overspend to find a dress I loved. Also if I had spent more than I wanted I would have ended up focusing on all the things the dress wasn't instead of all that it was.

So now, instead of having to wait 3-4 months for my dress to come and go into the salon for multiple fittings I have a dress in my closet that I love that only cost me half of my dress budget and is pretty much ready to wear (it already had a bustle added, so I can skip that step too). Now I can focus on being super excited about my wedding and not at all panicky about my dress.

I went to David's Bridal two different times. The first time I went with my dads (I have two gay dads) and my maid of honor. I tried on 6 different dresses and liked them all, but didn't feel "the one" feeling so I didn't get anything. I went another time totally unplanned, with just my dad, and I tried on 5 dresses. The last one just felt completely me - I was totally comfortable in it and felt like it just looked like me - I still don't know how to explain it. Went up to pay for it and turns out it was the last dress in that style at any David's Bridal in the area - PLUS it was my size and on clearance for $200. So that just confirmed it was "the one".

I don't know how to describe the feeling, but if you are like me, you will just know it is meant for you. Smiley smile

Mine was the first dress I tried on! Of course I tried on dresses afterwards just to be sure, but the moment I put on the first dress I knew it was “the one” and so did my family. I felt so beautiful in the dress, but it still felt like me, not like I was playing dress up. When they put on the veil and accessories, I got teary. I never doubted that this was my dress.

I went to 3 different stores and tried on like 6 each at each store. I knew it was the one cause after every store I thought I found a dress and always wanted to think about it and cons back later. The last store i went to I tried on my dream dress and I knew I needed to buy it right there!
