The Shoe Game!

FutureMrs.E, on February 9, 2016 at 6:20 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30

Hello! I'm not sure if any of you have heard of the "Shoe Game" but it's a game where the bride and groom take off their shoes and give one to each other (So both bride and groom have a groom's shoe and a bride's shoe). The two sit back-to-back as someone asks them questions like , "Who's the better driver?" "Who's the best kisser?" "Who said 'I Love you" First?" and so on. I am not doing a Garter/bouquet toss (Personally, I don't like it) so I thought this game could have been a nice substitute.

Have any of you played this game? Have experience with this as a guest? Is it corny or fun? I read about on a Pinterest article that said, "Fun things to do at your wedding". Just wondering what you guys think of the game!

I had a friend do this and it was actually pretty fun. Just make sure that you are okay with the questions beforehand. I would also suggest running the idea past important people in you wedding party. Your mom or FMIL might have a different view of it.

I don't think you really need a substitute for the garter or bouquet thing.

Not a fan of games at weddings in general. But that's just me.

I went to a wedding where they did this. It was cute, but make sure you both are comfortable with the questions they're going to ask. Also, make sure it's only a handful of questions. The one I saw was a good 15 questions and it just slowed the reception down. We were all dancing and having a good time then it was 20 minutes of standing around with nothing to really do. It got boring and slightly awkward.

I thought it was a bit corny but some people liked it. I think it would be better for a couples shower or combined bachelor/bachelorette party.

We did it! It was so fun. DH AND I didn't know the DJ was going to do it and we got every single one "right". We had the same answer for all of them. Guests couldn't believe it and thought it was super fun Smiley winking

@kris, you have one of each shoe to say if you're right or he's right, you hold up the respective shoe.

Eta: we did it for 15 minutes and also did bouquet toss and garter toss. Make sure your DJ is a great MC and improviser though. A bad MC makes the game worse.

We did this at the rehearsal dinner while the food was being set out. My mother in law surprised us with it and we had little lipstick kisses and mustaches on a stick. It was fun in a small setting with our families. I would not have wanted it at the wedding and generally don't enjoy games as a guest.

Hmm good question @missEtoMrsB! I'd hate to put a halt on any fun dancing time. Maybe during dinner? So that way, the guests having started partying yet and can enjoy a nice dinner and show? (I'd make sure I'd eat too!)

Sorry @Kris, I left out that part! Thanks @NowASeptMrs for filling Kris in! Smiley smile

My family/.social circle might have games at showers, but not weddings. We had a live band, with continuous music. I would hate to have told them to sit-out for 15 ($&dollarSmiley winking minutes, while we played a game, that our guests might not have been interested in. I think it would mean a sure rush, on the bathrooms, or outside to smoke.

So my sister really wanted to do this for her wedding, and asked me to organize it since I was her MOH. It actually turned out really well and everyone was laughing. I kept the list of questions short probably about 7 total. I asked funny questions like who is the most emotional, and who had the craziest family. I added some banter and laughed a long with everyone to keep it entertaining. For her crowd it worked out perfectly, you just got to know if your guests will find it funny or boring. I started off by explains the game a little bit, and I ended it by asking who loves

    Each other the most.

Edit it to add that we won't be doing it at our wedding, because FH's family and FMIL guests would not enjoy it. FFIL also asked us specifically to not have games.

My DJ wants to do this since we are not doing a bouquet/garter toss. I think it's a cute idea, but I agree, it should not go on too long.

We were planning on doing this. Our DJ suggested it, to be done during dinner so it doesn't take away from the dancing & partying. It sounded like fun - we weren't going to use our shoes but maybe something "cute" that would represent each of us (haven't figured that out yet).

I want to do this too! We are having a small wedding with about 50 people and they all aren't big dancers so I thought it would be a little entertainment for everyone. I think its a cute and fun idea!

They played this at a wedding I attended but the DJ took questions from the guests. There were some sexual questions and the bride's family is very conservative so it got awkward.
