The usual (and shallow) ugly chair debacle

So I was planning on renting white wooden folding chairs for aesthetics purposes as my parish hall has these comfortable and new but not very attractive black chairs. My mom thinks I'm silly and just wasting money, my usually frugal sister says that if I am going to put all this thought into my decorations why would I keep these chair eyesores. My oh so practical family friend who is helping me day of says that I should just use the black chairs. She has a good point that we would have to set up the chairs and break them down (unless I want to pay quite a bit extra), and then there is a question of where to put them after the wedding until they are picked up. I think they pick up on Monday for a Saturday wedding. We can't just leave them hanging around the church until Monday! Seat covers by the way cost over twice as much as the chairs in my region! What would you do? Bypass the headache and the expense and just move on? I hate that this is bothering me!!

I am gong with the same chairs. My friend at her wedding had white table clothes and those chairs. I never went omg this looks so horrible,I can't believe she did that. In fact if it were not for me wanting the same venue I would of not even looked at the chairs.

The white chairs look better than the black ones. I would order the white chairs or chair covers for the black chairs.

I just spend $825 to rent gold chiavari chairs to replace the white garden chairs at my reception venue.....so I'm probably not a good person to ask. That said, I called over a dozen vendors to find them for the lowest price possible and had my mom drive out to check out the cheapest ones to make sure they were good quality. I'm a PITAS I know but it seriously really mattered to me. I don't care that it doesn't matter to anyone else.

It's your day. If you want your decor to look a certain way, you should go for it.

So I checked the rental company brochure, 1.00 a chair to have them come and pack them up (this would be needed so that I'm not inconveniencing the people that are kind to volunteer to help clean up after my wedding) Then it would be $120 for after hours pick up. So it is possible to make it happen if I'm willing to pay. I have to think it over. I guess since I am having my reception in a less than glamorous setting I wanted to make it look nicer with my rentals. Money has been getting tighter though. When I look up village hall weddings or parish hall weddings one thing that stands out to me and makes it look quaint are the chairs.

For $120, I'd rent the chairs!

I'm having my reception in a historic home...the Alexander Blue House. So naturally the chairs and rug are blue.....which is not my colors. My colors: gold, silver, copper, white, ivory, pink, burgundy. NO BLUE. I was thinking of placing a wide ribbon UP/DOWN to break it up. At this point I said screw it. It is what it is. I vote ignore the chairs.

I'm having the same debate. The chairs in my venue are similar to those, except they're a weird burgundy color, but kind of faded so not actual burgundy. I want to rent chiavari chairs because in pictures, they totally make the space. I hate chair covers so it's either the chiavari, or nothing. With over 200 guests, it's going to be at least $1000, but we're trying to work it in. Like someone else said, I don't want to cringe when we look at pictures from our venue.

Cvlinens.com has banquet chair covers for less than $2 per chair and you can try to sell them after the wedding to another bride. That's where I got mine, and I just sold them on craigslist to someone for $1 each.

Save the money and use the chairs there! When you've got a tight budget, every penny counts. Spend the money you have on the decor people will remember like center pieces. So not worth the extra $$

What if you bought fabric and sewed covers just for the back of the chairs. You wouldnt need it for the seat since people will be sitting in them. If you screen name is accurate that should be pretty easy?

FH and I had this argument until I showed him the following two pictures. Our chairs cost us $700, by the way. Completely ridiculous, but I can't imagine the look of the room without them. The third picture is our actual wedding.

@KarenM wow! I love your reception space, and I love the colors of your wedding. The gold chairs really look nice. With my situation it would end up being around $700 to pay for the white wood folding chairs with the after hours pick up fee and the fee to have them pack them up. I feel like with all the work I have put into planning the overall look of my wedding that it would be worth it to me. My mom says otherwise (I'm paying not her btw). I realized I got to be a big girl and make this decision on my own, especially since it's my wedding and I'm the only one that will really care!

Karen, I'm totally saving those pictures to remind me of why we're paying an extra $1000 for chairs.

You can look into buying chair covers, lots of brides sell them cheap after their weddings. Then after your wedding you can always resell them as well!

I'm paying double for pretty chairs. Have a glass of wine and forget about the cost if you really want them

I looooove the look of folding wooden chairs of chiavari chairs and would LOVE to have them but based on our budget, that's something I have to sacrifice for other things that are more important to me. We do have chair covers however. I just don't get how chair covers are more than chairs where you live! That's WHACK! Maybe there's some other crafty way to fancy them up a bit (I'm not crafty... lol) like tulle or something? Tulle is my favorite go to answer. lol Smiley smile

@Amanda I'm already taking some crafty risks with my decor, ribbons for table runners and napkins in mismatched colors. My vases are white so I really wanted to get white chairs to match and have them be the grounding neutral thing visually if that makes sense. The picture below isn't the best, but it shows the table with my ribbons, napkins, one of the vases and just a swatch of grey fabric to show the color of the tablecloths I'm ordering.
