The venue burned down!!! HELP!!

Shane & Amanda, on March 25, 2010 at 5:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding this coming June and her wedding venue burnt down. We are now 3 months until the wedding with no venue. WE CANT CHANGE THE DATE EVERYTHING ELSE HAS BEEN BOOKED AND INVITES HAVE BEEN SENT!!-- I have thought about that. I am trying to help her out the best that I can. What are some outdoor wedding venues in the Dayton/Cincy/Columbus area that are available June 27 and that are reasonable??? HELPPPPP!!!!

OH wow--- this actually happened to a good friend of mine, although it was before they had booked anything else or sent out invites so she just changed her wedding date and venue.

If you can't find a venue available on such short notice, I would have her contact her guests and vendors ASAP. This is a pretty sympathetic case and I am sure most vendors would want to refund the money. I am sure the guests will understand too, what a horrible thing!!

Look on the vendor section in here just put in the area you are looking and that its for the ceremony/reception and contact any vendors that look like they might be a match and email them with the situation that has happened

OMG! That's awful! I'd say you can help the bride call the guests and let them know there's been a slight change of plans and to stay tuned for more information. You can also help her stay calm. If you're freaking out, I can imagine what she must be feeling. Good luck!!!

I'm not from your area, but I found this thru a google search:

Also has she checked out this place? It's a park and has various rental facilities and seems pretty cheap

Have you tried local hotels? Botanical gardens? Museums? What about city park/pavillions?

Wow that is so awful!! I am having my wedding in Columbus and I checked out quite a few outdoor venues. A lot of places may be booked, but Goodale Park is a really pretty outdoor park which allows you to book it for weddings. The Jeffery Mansion is beautiful, however they don't allow alcohol. I have also heard a lot of good things about the Topiary Gardens, but I've never been there myself

I hope she can find something suitable. What a terrible situation. Best of luck!

Oh my! Depending on the size of the wedding, you might be able to find a restaurant with a private dining room.

I would second the idea of checking all kinds of places, especially not typical wedding places. You'd be surprised about how many museums, historical societies and such will have wedding options. And the restaurants. I've seen lots around here that have large spaces dedicated to weddings. Also, call the vendors she has and see if any can recommend a place they think is less likely to be booked. It takes some time, but if you keep looking, I'm sure you will find a lovely space.

Oohh that is scary awful. Not sure if they have Maggiano's in your town. But one in here can host 250 seated with a dancefloor. See if there is one in your area. Also definitly try restaraunts. They are hurting for business right now, a lot of them have banquet rooms, etc. She may have to do a standing cocktail reception, but restaraunts can be pretty flexible on F&B minimums and food options.

Ooh, McCormicks& Schmidts. another good optino.

    geez, good luck

Has she spoken w/ the venue contact to see if they've worked out services for the booked clients w/ other local venues? It'd be worth a try.

Check all venues in the area for different times, the day before and the day after June 27th. You may be able to change it to a Saturday or Sunday brunch. Many venues have multiple event rooms and may have one open at a different time on the 26th, 27th or 28th. It will take diligence and calm nerves but there will be something available. Absolutely contact all the guests and let them know there will definately be a location change and possible date and time as well but that you are trying very hard to keep it the same weekend.

Very frustrating, but sometimes you can get lucky finding a venue with an opening or a cancellation. Might even get a deal! Definitely make sure she gets in touch with the previous venue and sees if they're doing anything to reschedule the events they've booked at another venue and especially to get her deposit back.

I'm with Graden Wedding I would check with your Venue to see if they are able to Contract it out to another Vendor at no cost to you. This happened with my sisters wedding during Construction of their addition and they booked her at another Venue in the area and they had to pay for it. It's worth asking. If not I was looking at the Franklin Park Conservatory it looked like a really nice place not sure the cost.

In Columbus, try checking out Franklin Park Conservatory or maybe Whetstone Park of Roses. Both are really nice places. Not sure on cost though. Good luck with everything!

Try cinciparks.com Eden Park is GORGEOUS and have lots of choices for an outdoor wedding setting. I am using a local park gazebo in my area, and actually got lucky that there is no fee... so, I have a free wedding venue. Can't beat it.
