The waxing debate - what I learned and wish I knew ahead of time

This may be TMI, so if you don't like that - stop reading now. Since I was debating having my first Brazilian wax for my wedding, I figured there would be others as well. So, I thought I'd share my experience from my first time this past Sat & what I wish I knew ahead of time.

I went to the European wax center where they use the hard wax. This wax they put on, it dries they pull it off verse the soft wax where they put it on, put on a strip and then pull. They said that this wax doesn't stick to your skin, just the hair. I would say that it's fairly true.

I get to my appointment, go into the room and she tells me to undress from waist down. They didn't give any paper panties, just sit on the table and lay back. Put your legs in frog position and the way we go. She talked through the 4 steps (first was powder, 2nd was something else, 3rd the wax, 4th lotion or something for after the fact). The wax itself was 6 main sections, that's it. The whole thing took 10 minutes. Cont below

@ Trisha You do have to let it grow. My appointment was last Saturday (the 25th) and the last time I shaved was Monday the 13th and they didn't say anything about length being too long or too short.

I just made my appt for a bikini line wax just to try it out. Then I still will have time for a full bikini wax and then a Brazilian wax before the big day! I decided to try the European Wax Center as well!

Got my first Brazilian right before we left for Mexico. It did not hurt in the back at all. Wasn't my first wax, but previously, I had only gotten the front door done.

I would say that tweezing my eyebrows hurts more than getting my potato waxed. Way more.

Rosemary, nope! It grows in much softer. When you shave, you are blunting the end of the hair, so it prickles when growing back. Wax pulls it out at the roots, so when it grows back, it still has that tapered end.

I had a pleasant experience with waxing as well, I've gone the past two months and already the second time i had done 2 weeks ago and it hasn't started growing back yet. My advice is to take some ibprofin 30 minutes before, NO wine. Time it so it's NOT during "that time of the month" due to sensitivity, and if one doesn't work, try out the other type or another place to find someone who works for you. Hard wax was MISERABLE for me, but soft wax is fine- your skin will react differently to even different types of hard wax, so keep trying, it will be worth it!

I'm with @e=mc2 take some ibuprofen before going. I've been waxing for years and I love it. There is this feeling of cleanliness (i know weird for me to say that but it's true) that you get used to after waxing for so long. Also not sure about any other regulars out there but regularly waxing increases my sesnsitivity in that area which is awesome. Sorry if TMI.

Thanks for sharing. This is definitely something I would consider for my wedding and it's nice hearing someone else's experience.

I would suggest getting the "sugaring wax". This is where they have warm wax that they roll into a ball in their hand and go over the hair.. pull and repeat. there are no strips just the wax. I did it for the first time and other than hurting because the hair was getting pulled out. I loved it. the pain went away before I walked out the door. It lasted over a month and when it grew back it grew back slowly and not all at once. I should have gone back for maintenance. The place I went to "http://www.penelopeandthebeautybar.com/" is in Seattle. I would go back. I went into the room undressed waist down like at the gyno. no paper panties either.. but lets get real. this lady is about to spread you open in places I don't let my fiancé go..

Definitely heed the advice of trying to schedule a few in before the wedding day. After my first one my area was a bit sore/sensitive for maybe 5 days. Not unbearable, just not preferred.

Interesting - I home wax but with strips .. I wonder if they sell hot wax for home and if it would be better?

I love hard wax. It's makes less of a mess and imo works better than melted wax. I've never gone to get a Brazilian done because I do them myself, but it's definitely worth it for how long it lasts.
