The Worst Has Happened

Tamia, on September 14, 2022 at 10:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So.....all of our wedding invitations, every last one, got lost in the mail. Not a single person has received the invitation we sent out over a month ago. Our wedding reception (we're eloping and having a reception a week later) is in 2 months. We do not have room in the budget for more invitations. We paid so much money, and I spent so much time crafting our invitations to be unique to our elopement just for them to be gone. USPS has no explanation for me as to where they are. It's as if they never existed. I'm not even sure that I have a question here I'm just upset and stressed and unsure of how to now get in touch with 60 guests to ensure we get timely RSVPs and meal decisions.

Hi I know it sounds odd but do you still have original design for your invitation. Or would you be willing to recreate them online and send them to email or social media? That way they would receive them immediately. And you could link your wedding website and they could RSVP online there.

Oh no. Maybe you should send an Evite to get them out there fast. For those you don’t have emails for, you can text. I would add a blurb that the official invites were lost.
In the end, you’ll have to text and email those who did not RSVP anyway. I had to chase a number of slackers .

Oh no! That's horrible. I'm so sorry. The same thing happened to my fiance's cousin with her save the dates. A bunch never showed up to people and never came back to her in the mail. It might just be best to send emails and texts to whoever you can and mentioning what happened

Oh noooooo. I’m so sorry! I don’t know what’s going on with USPS lately, but they have been losing, or late delivering, a TON of our mail lately also! I know how much thought (and money) goes into picking out the perfect invitation- it’s so disappointing to see all that money and effort go to waste 😭 I would definitely reach out to your guests ASAP via text and email with your wedding website where they can RSVP.

Oh no, sorry to hear that!! That's certainly frustrating. I would text a photo of the invite (or at least the wedding details) to everyone on your list and explain that USPS seems to have lost all of your mailed invites. Be sure to include the RSVP link and deadline, and maybe apologize on behalf of USPS for the inconvenience. Hopefully they find your invitations soon!

While typically e-vites aren't the best idea for a wedding, I would just do an e-vite in this case. I would send it whatever way you normally communicate with each guest. For example, I'm having a gender reveal next month since I'm currently pregnant and I sent e-vites. I used a free template on Canva to create it then downloaded it then sent to everyone invited. Most I sent via Facebook messenger, but others were sent via text since not everyone uses Facebook. I would include a link or phone number where they can RSVP and when they need to RSVP by.

Sorry to hear about that. It is sad and crazy that happened.

I was curious if you went to the postal office to send these out. I know there have been occasional stories about postal workers ditching bags of mail. More recently the mail is taking longer, but that would not happen on every invite sent out.
