So we just got engaged and we are slowly starting our planning. We actually decided we want to have fun with the wedding and have a Theme wedding because we are both total nerds. We decided to do an Alice in Wonderland them. Has anyone else done a theme wedding?

What a fun idea! You could have a topsy turvy cake and use oversized playing cards as table numbers!

We're doing a Star Wars themed wedding. He proposed to me on May 4th, and we're having our wedding this Halloween. Almost everything is DiY. I'm decorating the living room and pretty much most of the house as different planets or settings. I'm having a jungle Dagobah theme where our fish and turtles are so it kind of makes sense. I made my ring box as a wayfinder with the ring box inserted inside and it's held by Velcro pieces. It lights up! The RSVPs had a photoshopped image of us with Yoda. That was the day he proposed. For the invitations I made in Word, a boarding pass including a logo. We wanted to go smaller but we had lots of room to add in things and lots of leftover RSVP envelopes to use lol I made a lightsaber bouquet with lots of red flowers and painted it to look aged. Made my whole ceremony song incorporating different key themes so everyone including I can walk with music playing. I'm so stressed out but having way too much fun. I'm sure my guests will love it, especially the kids. Theme wedding 1

White Rabbit time! Alice and Wonderland is a great choice. It runs from innocence to the strange, but has not been made too cute in people's minds. Gives you room. Lots of humor. One caution about a theme wedding: make sure you are diving the theme, and it is not controlling you. When you have an Alice thing in 5 places, you do not need it on every table. Keep it from being overpowering.
I was at a kids party rum by an artistic mom. She has Cheshire cat figures grinning from inside some flower bouquets, some unexpected White Rabbits bustling off in kid size figures on the hall, by the door to the yard. A Dormouse on the counter in the bathroom. It reminded me of my parents taking turns reading it. And how un-expectedness was a major part of the craziness. You will have fun with this!

For the bouquet, I took off the plastic sword parts off the lightsaber. I bought it off eBay since I haven't seen it at the stores any more. It was about $10-15. I just used Michaels flowers and used flower tape to hold it together then hot glued everything into it once I knew what I wanted. Then I just painted the details on. Most lightsabers come pretty detailed already though. Theme wedding 6

This is the link to the wayfinder. It's cardboard. I used a plastic board from Michaels where they have the foam boards and all. He has a printable link on the info section. I cut everything out, hot glued only the top pyramid together and only the bottom parts together. Otherwise it's harder to open and close if you glue the top lid to the bottom. I glued a bit of thin cardboard to the inside parts that had noticeable holes from the material so that it's a little nicer looking. Then I spray painted everything with a cement texture spray paint. Don't overcoat as it'll drip and look gross.
For the inside of the lid, I used an acetate sheet or even a sheet protector (same material) to make the see through parts. I traced the lines with a grey paint onto the acetate. I used a clear gloss to protect the lines. Let it air dry. Then I painted a red dot where the map "led to" and I used the clear gloss over that again. I then used a pretty watered down light green and painted it all from one side. Make sure it's not super dark that you can't see through it. Theme wedding 7

I cut a ring box size in the middle of the wayfinder bottom. I used the small pieces of the ring box to actually extend the ring box (I took it apart a bit) so that the rings don't touch the top lid. I made a small hole in the ring box lid to hold a light. And I also added another light onto the very top of the inside top. I painted those a light green for a green light effect. You could use another type of light, I had just used these to use. I still have to fix a couple of the black spots because the Velcro didn't hold well on the paint, and I had to scrape off the paint a bit to hot glue the velcro to the material itself. so you can easily use a paint brush and using some of the spray paint to add it on afterward in the places that didn't get covered well. It was the second one i did actually and it did take a lot of tinkering with to figure out how I wanted it to open and still have lights and the ring. The template from the video helped with the sizing and all though.

You're welcome! For some reason the link doesn't work well but it is still available. I'll post an image of the video so you can see what it's called. Clicking the info part on the video will bring up a link to his template. Theme wedding 11
