So I’m almost 6 months into wedding planning and I thought I knew what I wanted but everything I had planned was just so boring. Its like I was planning the perfect wedding for someone but that person wasn’t me. I talked to my FH about it and he said he’s been hinting this entire time that it was a little to plain and I just wasn’t getting it 😭. So we sat down and reevaluated, he told me to switch some of the side colors (thankfully none of the big decor is ordered yet and the stuff we do have is an easy fix). He seems way more excited about the wedding now that the theme is switched! (and I am too) has anyone else done this? Planned a wedding you thought you liked only to realize you hated it halfway through?

Our wedding isn't until Jan. 2022, but I had a Pinterest wedding board all thought out and made BEFORE we got engaged lol. We've been together almost 7 years, so I was def. ready for that ring any second. 😂 I actually ended up going through it and scratching it completely after we got engaged! Before, I thought I wanted a moody wedding with deep, romantic colors, but after we toured our first venue choice and fell in love, my ideas changed.

We're now have a very minimal wedding with small detail. Instead of moody and dark colors, we're doing soft dove grey, lush greens, cream/white, and gold. It's more airy and minimal than I thought I'd like, but the more I plan, the more I realize that it's the perfect theme for us!

This is kind of happening to me! Originally my color scheme was sage, blush, and cream. Then I wasn’t really finding a way to fit blush into anything - my bridesmaid dress colors are sage green, I wanted lots of greenery and white linens, so now my wedding is basically green and white lol. I originally had wanted to get married during the fall so I had all these visions of lots of rich warm colors, but we decided to get married on our 5 year anniversary in May. I don’t like many spring color schemes besides the sage green, so I’m just sticking with it because there is nothing I can really switch to that I would truly like. I’m glad that you’re fiancé is excited about things now, and I hope you’re even more excited too!

I am! We wear mostly black (theater kids) and the theme was dnd (since thats how we met) so we stitched to burgundy, navy, and black. but originally we had planned for burgundy, navy, and creme. I love fall colors but we wanted our wedding to be on our anniversary (July 1st). He raised a lot of questions about July 4th and the confusion but I just didn’t get what he was talking about. The new theme fits us so much more.

Yea ma'am. Was planning a regular size wedding that would cost several thousands and realized I was too worried about what others thought instead of myself. Then switched it to a three guest wedding that was super affordable.

Lol, kinda. My hubby (then fiancé) told me a wedding is really for the bride so left me to plan alone. While lonely planning my crystal goddess fairy wedding I knew he would hate, I asked for his help. We brainstormed ideas (over a bottle of wine) and that’s how our pirate DW and local 50/60’s local reception was born. Those events were sooooo US. 😍

My fiance is actually the reason we ended up changing our colors. Our colors were originally navy, mint and grey. I just knew it was going to be gorgeous and he let me plan for I don't know how long until he finally said he didn't care for the mint. I know it would have looked great on him and it was just a mint tie, not an entire suit. I said at least try it on before squashing the idea. I also told him just that, that it was an idea, an inspo photo and that he could wear whatever he wanted. We just ended up scrapping that scheme anyway cause he sucks lol. We then changed to navy, wine and gold but after I found our invites, it's now marble. We're keeping the navy and wine as accent colors and there will be pops of silver.

Definitely. I like to say our vision evolved. The more I planned, the more detail I wanted to put into it and the more I really wanted to make it our own. I started off totally okay with having basic stationary, skipping favors, minimizing florals, etc. But now I want it all. That being said, we also didn't realize how much certain things would cost. So our budget was a little unrealistic and that limited us too. Eventually we decided to just adjust our budget so we could do what we wanted in certain areas and that opened up a lot more options for us to get more creative.

NOPE!! i have been saving pics to different sections of the wedding on a pinterest board, narrowing it down to what i like, (i had a nerdy side board of LotR and SW ) and figured out the other stuff i liked... ALL WHILE TOTALLY SINGLE MIND YOU. (i have wanted to be married since i was 5 years old) I have been dating my boyfriend for 2 years now, about 1 year ago, we started LOOSELY talking marriage/wedding, and i showed him a necklace that i had made planning on wearing it on my wedding day.... the nerdy couple we BOTH ARE..... he says, "well, I kinda wanted you to wear your Evenstar necklace on our wedding day" (WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE??!!!) We started talking more and we both agreed a nerdy wedding suits us both. so I showed him some stuff from my nerdy wedding ideas and he loved it! we both play xbox, love lord of the rings, and starwars, and skyrim, so our wedding will be about us, instead of random color schemes. and the flowers i wanted are in a lightsaber hilt too!

We didn't have this happen, but we did have to rethink our colors at one point. My husband's brother and his wife got engaged two days before us so we were all planning our wedding at the same time. We had planned on having red and black as our wedding colors long before we ever got engaged. Everyone knew this. His wife then told me red was one of their colors. It wouldn't have been such a big deal normally, but the weddings were six weeks apart. She wanted to do the same color bridesmaids dresses and flowers as me. My husband and I talked and we completely switched what we were going to do. We switched to a light pink and grey. She messaged me a few days later and they decided to go with a dark green instead of red so we switched back to red and black. I was glad they switched because I knew my husband really had his heart set on red and black.

Well, BEFORE getting engaged, I had an entire (unusual) wedding concept planned out, including decor, food and even the venue here in San Diego. Then a few weeks after FH proposed, I super randomly tossed out the idea of getting married in Vegas. We love going a few times per year and we’ve both been married before. So I thought it would make for a fun weekend with our close family and friends. FH agreed and (just like that) the ideas I planned prior to being engaged flew out of the window. We found the perfect venue inside one of the hotels on the strip and it’s wonderfully unconventional, fun and just so “us”!! I still love my original ideas and I plan to use them for one of our anniversary celebrations/vow renewals.

Congrats on ditching the old ideas and planning a wedding that you’re excited about!

I thought I wanted to have the BMs in green dresses - I looked at the green options - hated them all - went with a turquoise/aqua color that is a favorite anyway (and that looked great on all three of my girls)
