My husband and I had a wonderful wedding in the Dominican Republic on April the 21st and while waiting for the professional photos I decided to talk about some of the things that didn't go as planned.
1. The dress code was beach formal and I specified "no white". Well, two of my brothers, the officiant, and my dad decided to wear white Guayabera shirts
2. The invitation said that the guests should arrive at 4:30 pm and that the wedding would start at 5:00 pm. For some reason, one of my brothers thought the starting time was at 6:00 pm and he was in charge of picking up my dad. They both arrived after we had said our vows
3. We had someone to translate the ceremony for my parents. Since my dad arrived late, he sat in the back ignoring his seat in the front next to the translator, so he basically didn't understand anything and my younger brother decided to translate for my mom. My poor brother was sobbing most of the time, that's why we wanted a third party to do it
4. I was spotting on my wedding day and got my period during our honeymoon. It seems that the copper IUD did affect my cycle after all
5. The visuals and sound vendors didn't bring a laptop. So they basically asked me to bring the music and videos we were having at the wedding on a flash drive and then at the venue, they didn't have a laptop. So I had to send someone to get mine from our apartment that was right in front of the venue.
6. When my mom was helping me get dressed, she couldn't fasten my dress. My dress had only 2 hooks and we had already practiced. She was too nervous, so I went to the bathroom and did it myself
7. We asked my guests to not take pictures or film during the reception because we had a crew of photographers and videographers. I wish they had followed my recommendation, most of them are looking straight to their phones on the wedding video
8. The decoration was not what I asked, but it ended up being more gorgeous than the one I picked. I basically picked everything white with peach and coral. My cake was actually beige and the decor we had was vintage so it totally worked out
In the end, it was an amazing day and everything worked out. I decided not to get annoyed by simple things, I was marrying the love of my life and colors of a shirt, putting my own dress or people arriving late were not going to ruin it.
To future brides, focus on the goal because things will turn out differently and that's totally fine and remember that because you did the planning only you will notice, guests will love everything regardless.
