Thinking about ordering my wedding dress from lightinthebox.com

Beth, on June 8, 2015 at 1:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Has anyone ordered a dress from one of the cheap Chinese online stores? Like lightinthebox or jjhouse or any other ones and had a good experience? I really need to spend less than $200 on my dress. I have a very small budget and just can't spend the$500-$600 at David's bridal. Please help with cheap dress ideas

Google knock off scam, I think there's a facebook group. I really wouldn't want to order anything there and be stuck with a unusable dress that I paid $200 for.

Have you thought about something like a modcloth wedding dress?

I've never done it myself but watched a story about it on the news a couple of weeks ago. I have to say, the story was not very flattering. It showed a dress online, then it showed what was actually delivered. It was pretty sad. Cheap materials and shoddy workmanship. The bride was beside herself. Somehow she was able to get a dress off the rack where she lived at the last minute so she ended up looking nice on her wedding day. Like I said, I have no personal experience doing that but I just wouldn't do it. You don't even have much recourse in terms of customer service since you're dealing with another country. It's just too risky for me to feel comfortable buying a dress that way.

I ordered a dress from light in the box over a year ago. Never got it. Never got a refund either. I've been leaning towards JJ's House because there's pictures and reviews of real people on their FB page. You rarely see any complaints. I'm definitely ordering my shoes from them.

Avoid the Chinese shops. They will never turn out the way you imagine, especially for wedding gowns. The shipping will take forever and the return policy is not worth it.

If you go to a local bridal show where DB has a booth, if you make an appointment with them while you're there, they'll give you a $50 coupon that you can use at the appointment. Wait for a sale and stack the coupon on top of that. You might be able to get it under $200, though your selection is going to be limited.

Target has a small bridal selection: http://www.target.com/c/wedding-dresses-the-shop-ways-to/-/N-55nkb

    Try looking for pre-owned dresses:

You might consider looking for just white dresses and not necessarily looking for "wedding gowns" at stores like JC Penneys, Macy's, etc.

DON'T SHOP AT LIGHT IN THE BOX!!!! I ordered my bachelorette party dress, didn't receive it, and they have horrible customer service! You can't call them to talk to them, you have to do everything by "ticket" .. I ended up just going through visa, and disputing the purchase.

Absolutely do NOT buy from there
