Thinking of table cameras....?

Stephanie, on June 15, 2011 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 38

DONT DO IT!

I was one of those brides who was like "oh I know they will cost money, but they will all be so cute. I dont care what people say!!"

Then $80 later for the cameras and $100 for developing, and all i have are a bunch of pictures from people who did not use the flash right, of the floor, random back of heads, bad qaulity, and maybe only 10 usable pictues. We even took the cameras that werent finished on the honeymoon, and they came out terrible. I have enclosed an example of what my pictures look like, ew

So ladies, please please take my advice and stay away.

I also set up a shared Shutterfly website so all our family and friends can upload their pictures there. Much better idea! (and its free!)

I read the posts in the past, but I thought I knew better. Dummy!! I just love pictures so much, and I wanted pictures of everyone else having fun. Oh well!

I don't know what to say about the types of pictures taken, but perhaps the cameras were just a bad batch? I've used disposable before and they came out right and never had problems with them so I'm going to assume that perhaps the cameras got too hot (during transport to store or whatever) or were just old, etc.

However, I am surprised you actually still had the cameras after the wedding! lol. I went to a wedding where the bride hired a photographer, but thought it would be a neat idea to get view points and such from the guests of the wedding day. You know "oh capture some of those funny or classic moments that they photographer might miss or not think of and etc".... only to find out that at the end of the wedding, some of the guests actually kept and took home the cameras!

She never was able to find out which guests took them home as others had brought their own camera with them. She never did see what pictures had been taken/captured either.

You should NEVER skimp on your photographer if you can! This post just further illustrates that point.

Also where did you get them developed at? The last time I got pictures developed.... they "bought back" any pictures that came out crappy and as they charge per print - I only paid for the ones that came out good.

Usually the lighting in the recpetion is so dark that disposable cameras just don't work. Even your pro photog will have to use a flash/filters with his $5,000 camera... So a $10 one that gets thrown out won't cut it.

Sorry you had this happen, but glad you could share to prevent other brides from having the same problem.

@Glenn, I still had a photographer (thank goodness!), but I thought it would be cute to get everyone else's point of view. not the case!

@Kristina, I got them developed at CVS. I only got the CD and didnt order any pictures, figuring I would only print the ones we liked. Not many of them!

Yeah, it sucks that they didn't come out. I'm doing an eye spy game with all of my guests since I know that a majority of them have at least a crappy digital camera.

It's not the disposable cameras or the development, it's the guests who either drank too much, or simply don't know what they are doing. My sister did the same thing as Stephanie A. Thought "This will be great"... worse idea ever.

I would recommend going the shutterfly (or any other shared photo website) route. That way, you can see everyone else's personal pictures and decide if you want to purchase them or now.

The film in disposables is normally 400 iso- aka- meant for well lit areas. how many peoples receptions are outside in the bright sun? not many. at least with a digital camera the camera will adjust the iso for you.

that's the problem with disposables. everything is set. if your shooting conditions match those that the camera was made for then sure- you can get some good pictures. but most of the time your shooting conditions don't match and then you get fuzz and blah.

I used to get 2-3 disposables whenever I had a BBQ, and even those (taken outside in the bright sun) don't always turn out great.

@ Brian -- I never voted "yes" for them... nor do I plan to use/offer them.

I was just simply stating that the cause of them coming out bad could have been (just like you said in your post to me) that they were old/bad. Then I just added in a story about a wedding I had gone to where the guests actually stole/left with the cameras.

I was in no way promoting the use of them for anyone. I have my photographer and whomever attends are welcome to take pictures if they want and share with us.

When I mentioned me having used them in the past -- it was not for a wedding or any special event. Actually the last time I bought one was for my son's field trip. I wasn't able to attend (they needed the help) so I sent him with one so he could get the memories, but if lost it then no biggie.

Bright side, Stephanie: at least you didn't have cameras full of inappropriate pictures (or you're lucky the p-pics didn't come out).

    @Brian C. - what is a courtesy camera service?

Even if the cameras where brand new- they could still turn out crap. and old cameras could still (in a miracle) turn out good.

moral of the story- way to many way it could just plain go wrong....
