We really want a 1920s theme. My body type (short and round). Does not work perfectly for mermaid style dresses, but there has to be something that will work. I ordered this (black and blue), loving it online. I don’t like it in person. It’s not even the fit that I dislike. It just wasn’t what I envisioned from the pictures. This white one showed up on my Facebook and it’s so pretty! For only $30, I ordered it and if it doesn’t work, it can be returned just like the other one. I’m just trying to get an idea of what looks good. I don’t want to go to Bridal stores because I don’t plan on spending bridal store prices. I will check our one discount bridal store I know, but this style of dress really isn’t very prevalent. I also love this spaghetti strap blue one, but I don’t think it’ll do well with my body type. Haha. This is why I start looking for dresses two years away from the wedding.
You can totally go to a bridal salon to try on all different types of styles to see what fits YOUR body best. Then find something similar online that you like for way cheaper. That way you don't have to keep playing the guessing game and ordering / returning.
Those are beautiful! Join me on my wedding workout shape up year. None of us are perfect , we just have to make the best of what we've got. My flaws will be tanned and toned if it kills me. Got the fiancee on the wedding shape up too.❤ You can still go try on dresses without making a purchase. It will give you an idea of what to look for online. Can't wait to see what you get !
The designer Adriana Pappell might have some designs you like. I found a dress that I used as a BM dress at a department store, so you can go and try them on before you buy,

I know I can. I just feel guilty taking their time with no intentions of buying. I will likely take a trip to the discount bridal store because then, if I do find something I love, it’s more doable.

Anna, I’d love to do a shape up! I’m still feeling the effects of a broken knee (I teach Emotional Support) from last school year, so I can only do so much as far as exercise, but I’ll do as much as I can!

Emily, someone else suggested that designer too. I’ll have to check it out. I’m looking for 20s vibe without being too formal.

Sounds good. I’ll have to look into some chair exercises on bad knee days.
Are you looking for a white dress or colored like the black and blue one? If the colored one, I would use prom or formalwear in your online searches. And there is nothing wrong with trying on dresses to get an idea of what you want. David’s bridal has $99 dress sales every now and then. The consultants know that there is a 50/50 chance of them doing a sale that day, so I wouldn’t worry about wasting their time.

Haha. Thanks. I do NOT like the black/blue one on me. And it's not even 100% my body. The dress is just not what I thought it would be for me. I gained a bit of weight with the knee issue and not being able to hike as much as I like and this is without shapewear. I don't like the dress enough to get into shapewear to try it on again. LOL
My original intent was to stay away from white. However, after seeing the one I just ordered to try, I am thinking white may not be a bad option and I can bling it up with some color. I think white = traditional for me and traditional is not what we want. However, I am not opposed to trying on pretty white dresses to test that theory. ;-)

Thank you. I don't like the cut of the top. It cuts my tattoos off weirdly ( I know, I am strange to worry about that). Plus, I have great boobs, so why not accentuate my assets. LOL
If you’re afraid of the bridal salon because you might fall for a dress then I recommend a store with lots of different dress options. That would be the best way to find out what works for your body type best and go from there. If you want to avoid keep purchasing the wrong dress online I suggest you find your style first.

Btw, a few years ago, we were planning to get married in a friend's beautiful back yard and go with a very natural theme (still untraditional). I found THIS dress at that discount Bridal Shop and I still love it. However, the friends that owned the property broke up after 15 years together and we lost the place for our wedding. Then life happened and we're just now in a place to start planning again. We already found in indoor venue and want a fun theme, which is why we're going this route. But this dress really is pretty.
I definitely agree with other Pps in that you can go to a store just to try on things so you can know already what suits you best rather than buying it thinking you can just try it and then return later. it'll save you the hassle of returning things or buying things that won't work

I liked the black and blue one but agreed the top was cut funny. Overall it seems like you know what you want roughly so I think it's just finding *the one* Good luck
