Those hiring florists. Mock-up questions?!

Brooklynbride, on September 30, 2015 at 8:52 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

Hello everyone!

Florals are a HUGE hunk of my budget (like hold your breath and pretend it doesn't exist huge, sold a kidney to pay for them huge) and we've already met with the florist once beyond our initial visit/brainstorming session where she created a sample of our table florals. Adore them!

I'm now hoping to see mock-ups of the large florals on the bar and of my bouquet. She said a few days before the wedding I can take a look at the bouquets she's put together. Lady, I'm giving you bucket loads of moola. I need to make sure before then my florals are on point. We are heading back this Friday to drop off some items and finalize contract details and I was hoping to see more florals then.

What is included in everyone else's florists package? I know some of you are in the floral biz, what is normal and expected to create mock-ups for before the big day. Am I asking too much?

Thanks in advance!!!

I will defer to Centerpiece on this one.. but my florist isn't including mockups. Not sure what the norm is though.

I'm using a florist in Brooklyn (13th avenue florist). He only makes a sample of the centerpieces and I had to choose between a sample of the bridesmaids bouquet or mine (of course I chose mine) but that's it. I don't get a sample of any of the other arrangements. I met with florists that didn't provide any mockups at all and only showed pictures of their previous work.

If I wanted any mockups I would have to pay for them separately and they'd be the same price that she quoted me.

The purpose of a mock-up is to show the client that the florist understands the bride's vision and can execute it to her satisfaction. I really don't know any florist who would do a free table floral, and then agree to do a free large bar piece and a bouquet. Generally, if a florist advertises free mock-ups (not every florist does) a client gets one piece (and that's something that's usually stated in the contract).

If you adored the piece she's already shown you and it was on point with your vision, you can trust her to use that same talent in creating the other pieces. I suppose some florists would accommodate your request, but I don't know of any. To be honest, we've never been asked to do a mock-up, and we've had clients with massive budgets.

We always let the bride see what we're working on the day before her wedding. We send her pictures of her bouquet. If she wants changes, we change it. Letting you see the bouquets a few days before will give her plenty of time to make any changes.

Ok. Such good perspective! I have nightmares the bar florals won't look right, but think I have to let go of my worry and trust that she will do a good job. Super appreciative of the perspective.

The company I'm using will do "free" table mock ups for clients that hit the $8k mark on their order (they do linens and other rentals as well as floral). I'm not getting quite to that mark, but she's slipping one in for me anyway, lol...sometime in November Is when we're trying to schedule it. I'm doing a bridal portrait shoot at the beginning of November and ordered a bouquet for that, so that is sort of a trial run for my day of bouquet too. They are charging me half of the wedding bouquet for the bridal portrait shoot bouquet.
