Those with Open Bars - are you afraid the venue might "cheat" you?

I've heard from a lot of people that the venue might cheat you on alcohol consumption. They would either count more than what was really consumed or keep pouring when not asked. How much are you budgeting for your open bar?

OB is included in ours but we can upgrade it. They have you pay it up front; but they charge per person whether they drink or not.

I don't know what we're paying just for booze....but FH found something in our contract where they were taxing us separately or additionally on the booze. I wasn't paying attention to what it was because he fixed it. The woman was like, "Oh wow, most people don't catch that" so now they're not charging us that tax...seemed shady but hey, we're getting a break now. So my advice is to triple check your contract when it comes to the open bar expenses.

Our venue charges 18/pp for all night for everyone over 21. We are doing everything through them though, we chose an all inclusive package.

The venues we are considering all include alcohol (per hour) in the price of the venue.

With 400+ guests (some children) open bar is too expensive. We are going to buy a few kegs, and then our venue can do a ticket system. We will buy so many tickets for mixed drinks and hand them out to our guests and when those run out the guests will have to purchase their drinks. My cousins have all done this and no one complained at all.

I've never heard of a venue lying about how much alcohol was consumed, or pouring drinks when no one asked for one. That would be such a huge mistake, too; it goes against contracts and would be terrible for the venue if you gave them bad publicity. And, like I've said, I've never even heard of this being a thing that happens.

My open bar is $1,250. For about 200 guest. It will be for 6 hours. It includes soda, water, coffee, 2 types of beer and 3 mixed drinks..my family tends to be heavy drinkers so this is a steal!

We had two idiots in hoodies crash and walk up to the bar to get a drink, hopefully we hear back from the venue that they will omit the cost from those two Idiots. We knew what group they were with.
