Thoughts on Bhldn? The Anthropology wedding line.

Lorna, on April 10, 2022 at 3:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
The dresses are my vibe and theres a few I love. I’m sad that they’re polyester (basically plastic and cheap fabric) and not cheap. Anyone know a brand that’s similar and made with better fabrics?

BHLDN’s dresses are very well made and flattering. I don’t think you’ll find too many non-polyester based dresses for less than BHLDN’s prices due to the cost of higher quality fabric. Maybe check out Grace Loves Lace, but I think you’ll find polyester as a component in most non-designer dresses today.

I think the BHLDN dresses are lovely. Have you been able to go try them on to see if they look/feel cheap?

The only other places I can think of with similar prices are A&Be bridal, the lovely bride, & Teuta Matoshi.

It really depends on your price point, but to be honest, most bridal gowns below $5K are polyester or poly-blend. Allure Bridals, Justin Alexander, Martin Thornbrug, Watters, Wtoo, Willowby, Maggie Sottero, Sottero and Midgely, Rebecca Ingram, Sophia Tolli, even Jenny Yoo use a lot of polyester. However, the fabrics are higher quality than you might be expecting- polyester doesn’t necessarily mean scratchy or cheap feeling. It’s a versatile material, which is why it’s so common to see. I worked in bridal for three and half years, at a small boutique where dress were generally in the $1.5-$3K range, and I don’t think we had a single dress with no amount of polyester in it (I worked with well over 1,000 gowns from various designers). I’ve tried on quite a few dresses from BHLDN’s selection while finding my own wedding gown, and have found them to be comparable quality to the other brands listed, with some very unique designs! I hope your try on goes well!

Another option is to find a style you love and have a local seamstress recreate it using higher end fabrics.

You could check out places like Poshmark or Still White to see if you can find those dresses for a lower price!

I think vintage is the best way to go for real silk and handmade lace, etc. Sizing is challenging but if you have the time, might be worth hunting for it!

Update for everyone I decided to go with BHLDN for my wedding dress!!! It was a gift from my mom. First stop was at Kleinfeld and they did not have any for my budget. I tried on 2 that were $100 over my budget but did not love them. The employee there even suggested going to Beholden for the boho look I wanted. I tried on about 5 dresses at BHLDN and decided on the one of my top choices.
