Thoughts on card box- lock needed?

Do you think they need to be locked, or enclosed somehow? All of the ones I've seen here seem to be "one way". Cards go in through a slot and you wouldn't have an easy time getting them out without an obvious effort. I want to believe that no one would steal from the cards, but I guess it's...

What do people think?

I would ask one of the bridal party members to watch the card box card. At my sister in laws wedding I stood close to the box but my main duty was to direct people to the guest book. If I had to take my eyes off of it then another member of the party took my place. When ever we had to empty of move it, I grabbed another member of the wedding party to ensure two eyes were always on it.

I have heard of people picking up the whole box and walking out with it. It was happened in my area quite a bit. Just make sure there is a solid plan in place once the reception starts. People are concerned about getting to their places and the box can be left unattended.

I'm really concerned about this too, and we are planning on getting one with a lock or one that comes apart completely in order to get to the cards. As far as someone walking out with the whole box- I was thinking about getting one of those tracker tiles (the small ones that you attach to your cell phone or keys) and attaching it to the inside of the box so that if it does go missing, we can track it down.

This was not a concern of mine what so ever.. however, we ordered our card box through ETSY, and you actually have to unscrew the bottom to get the cards out.. so might not be a lock, but should deter people

ETA: I ordered the same one @MD did!

My FH is pretty adamant about a large, locking card box, but now has recently brought up the idea of putting bricks or rocks in the bottom to weigh it down. What do you all think? At first I thought it was overkill, but after seeing your stories and hearing others, I am starting to think it isn't that dumb of an idea after all.

@Marlene - my MIL made it for us - she's a heck of a lot craftier than I am! lol I know you can find similar ones on Etsy, but she swears that the cost of materials and time to put it together are not worth buying it already made.

I put the card box off to the last minute and ended up not having one so we just used as spare centerpiece box (which was basically an open tray). My DOC cleared it throughout the night and it was no problem! Glad I didn't stress about it.

I didn't think this should be a concern but then 3 different friends told us how cards were stolen at their weddings. 2 of those weddings by cousins and 1 by someone they couldn't track. It happens and I don't recommend a box that doesn't lock.

I wasn't going to worry about this until my friend had about 15 cards stolen from hers this past weekend. I'm definitely putting more thought into it now.

I made my card box by cutting a slit into a decorative box from Joann's and adding some ribbon (someone else here mentioned doing this too). My original plan was to weight the box down with a brick inside and glue the lid on shut with the slot exposed. But with so much going on right before the wedding, it was one of the extra details I overlooked. So I guess we we're lucky that our card box was left untampered with, especially since we had 20 cards with checks and cash by the end of the night (way more than I thought we'd receive since our honeymoon fund was linked on our website).
