Thoughts on DIYing Wedding Favors?

Kaylee, on June 9, 2021 at 2:58 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 23
What does everyone think about DIYing wedding favors? We were thinking about purchasing small clear boxes to hold his and hers macarons that we make then placing a stickler on the box. What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Any other ideas for favors?

I think that sounds like a great idea! Edible favors are usually more popular, and I love the idea of a personalized sticker to put on the box!

I agree with Lisa! You could even do a personalized tag and tie the box up with it and ribbon as well, but I think stickers might be more cost efficient!

Either go edible or put the money towards food/bar/dj/photography/video that you and guests will appreciate more.

Even many edible favors get left behind. DIY is very rarely a money saver because you have to factor your time at minimum wage per hour on top of cost of supplies.

We made a homemade coffee liquor with vodka, brandy, vanilla, cocoa and sugar and bought cute little 2oz stopper bottles as gifts and little bags of M&Ms (our names are Molly n Mark McKelvie! Smiley winking

Its a cute idea, but do you really want to deal with all that baking the week of your wedding? I don't know much about macarons (as I've never made them) but I'm assuming you won't be able to assemble in advanced, you'd be doing it a few days before your wedding. Personally that is not something I would not want to be scrambling to do, and what if they don't turn out the way you want (unless you have experience baking them then go for it). But edible favors all the way, we will be doing jars of honey.

Macarons can be stored for up to two weeks in the right conditions and they can be made in large batches so it takes less time. By my guess 400 macarons would take around 8 hours to make and assemble and I would rather make them than spend $800 on them. I have made macarons before and that is why I’m considering doing it, if I hadn’t had that experience then I wouldn’t even think about it. Honey jars sound adorable and thank you for your input!

I think it would be very cute. My mother-in-law with the help of my husband's sister and his brother's wife made cake pops for our wedding. They turned out super cute and were very tasty.

Good on you for trying to DIY! Macarons sound like great favors. Just keep in mind that they can get quite delicate. Make a few extras in case some get crushed as you are trying to package them. The bakery I used to work at made them and occasionally we would get to eat the ones that got squished.

I am considering having Lindt Truffles as our wedding favors. They have always been a huge favorite of mine and the blue wraper of the dark chocolate one is the same color as one of our wedding colors.

Love it!! Edible is definitely the way to go. We are doing candy jars. Hugs and kisses. And colored candy for a dash of color. Still needs tags but I like it so far. Thoughts on DIYing Wedding Favors? 1

If you don't mind the baking and have experience, I say go for it. I'm all for cutting costs and I think an edible favor is the way to go. We are doing two edible favors... not actually making either, but will be packaging them ourselves to try to cut down the cost of other's doing so. What flavors are you making?
